Summary

BioWare is set to shipDragon Age: The Veilguard’s first patch “later this week,” as outlined in a social media post from thestudio’s official account. Technically speaking, Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a very well-made game, so it should come as no surprise that this patch is a small one, featuring “minor balance changes” and a couple of bug fixes.

The first of which is the fixing of “an issue where some customisations were not applied to the Inquisitor correctly in one scene.” There’s an infamous scene where makeup, among other options, is not correctly applied to the Inquisitor, which can be jarring for those excited to see their beloved protagonist rendered in The Veilguard. This usually fixes itself as the game progresses, but now, after the forthcoming patch, you’ll never have to experience that again.

A bug where companion skill points are reset is also being addressed. It’s not a big deal because you’re able to always reapply them, but you can envisage a situation where a player hasn’t realised their companions have no upgrades, and it costs them a difficult fight. Where would we be if Neve wasn’t casting Blizzard every few seconds? Probably underneath the heel of a Hurlock. The final fix is a PC-only change for those with the 40 series of NVIDIA GPUs. An issue where you couldn’t adjust DLSS settings on these cards has been fixed.

The “minor balance changes” won’t be specified until later in the week, but there haven’t been any classes or specialisations that have stood out above all the others. Our own editor-in-chief says that while classes are a personal choice,melee-focused rogues tend to get the best out of The Veilguard’s new combat system. This is because the flow of combat in Veilguard’s combat system is constructed around staggering opponents and generally being in the thick of it, which is somewhere that ranged characters don’t usually want to be. There’s also three different mages in your party, so another mage isn’t the best choice for class diversity.
