Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s director John Epler recently confirmed thatworld state customisation is going to be incredibly limitedthis time around. Rather than importing every decision we’ve ever made in the series through the Dragon Age Keep, we’re insteadrecreating our Inquisitorand selecting just three decisions that they made in the last game.
One of these decisions is who our Inquisitor romanced, suggesting that this will come up when we meet them again in The Veilguard. We can choose from everyone, but it seems that they all have the same outcome, and this can’t be customised. This might mean that the “bad endings” that some romance options have, like Iron Bull and Blackwall, can’t be carried over into The Veilguard.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Might Ignore Some Inquisition Romance Endings
This has been deduced by fans based on the description ofIron Bull’s romancein The Veilguard. Here, it says that Iron Bull refused to turn on the Inquisitor, despite the fact that this can still happen in his romance path.
To get this path with Iron Bull, the Inquisitor has to tell him to let the Chargers die, following the Qun’s orders. If he does this, you can still complete his romance, but you will be forced to kill him in the Trespasser DLC.
Iron Bull’s romance path isn’t the only one with multiple endings. If you get with Blackwall, you can leave him or let him die when you discover the truth about his past. Even if you stay with him, you can tell him to join the Grey Wardens, in which case the epilogue will mention that he never saw you again after Trespasser. Similarly, Cullen’s romance can end early if you encourage him to continue taking Lyrium.
Then, there’s Cassandra’s romance, which is influenced by whoever becomes the Divine. If she becomes the Divine, then your romance has to continue in secret. We already know that The Veilguard isn’t asking us who became the Divine in our game, so it’s unclear how The Veilguard will write around this.
Some are assuming that anyone who got these “bad endings” for their romances will just have to say that their Inquisitor didn’t get with anyone in the last game. This is pretty disappointing since the romance can still count as completed if you end things like this. In fact, Trespasser gave most of these outcomes unique endings slides, but it seems The Veilguard won’t be taking these into account.
Of course, it’s possible that the final gamewilllet us select how our romances ended, and we just haven’t been shown that option yet. We don’t have much longer to wait and see in any case, as Dragon Age: The Veilguard is set to launch on October 31.
