Summary
Dragon Age: The Veilguardis just like all the other games in the series in that it has a strong focus on relationships. We know that all of your companions are canonically pansexual, so none of them are left off the table when it comes to potential romances, and that they will romance each other if left alone, in an attempt to make them feel more like actual people rather than walking fleshbags for the main character to conquer.
Don’t expect to be able to romance NPCs in The Veilguard though. Oddly enough, you’ll be keeping your sordid relationships strictly within the workplace.
Unfortunately, that leaves the door open for a potential love triangle or two, as your reluctance to flirt with a certain party member may end up having them seek the arms of another. If that happens, there’s not much you may do about it, but it has been hinted by BioWare itself that certain characters may visit you for advice in their romantic endeavors, and you don’t have to give them good advice.
Dragon Age: The Veilguard Might Let You Wreck A Companion’s Romance
Speaking with PC Gamer, director and creative director Corinne Busch and John Epler went into greater detail about these potential clashes of romantic interests, including whether you have any say in things once things get in motion. Busch in particular had some very interesting information for those that fancy themselves a professional homewrecker.
“I don’t want to spoil anything, but they might come to you for advice, and I can’t guarantee you’ll give them good advice.”
While we won’t know how badly you could derail a potential relationship until the game is in our hands, it does sound as though you could make yourself the world’s worst wingman and sabotage a romance or two if you don’t want it to happen. You’ll firmly save yourself a place in Hell if you do, but at least you could potentially stop your Dragon Age crush from falling for another.
