Summary
Dragon Ball: Sparking Zerofinally launched in advanced access today, bringing back the Budokai Tenkaichi series after17 years. If my colleague George Foster is anything to go by (he scored the game 4.5 stars), fans are bursting at the seams with excitement. With a roster of 182 characters, who can blame them? But the community is itching to take that even further.
One fan onthe Video Game Mods forumhas put out a $500 bounty in Steam vouchers which will go to the first person who creates and uploads modding tools to the dedicated Sparking Zero Mods website. According to admin Zenin, whichever set of mod tools “allow custom assets into the game will be awarded” the prize money.
The first 50 modders to use the tools will even get a $10 voucher each.
They have given the community 30 days to put the kit together, and payment will arrive 60 days after release so that the tools — and any mods uploaded — can be tested and verified. Whoever wins will receive an email asking for their SteamID so that they can be sent the vouchers. Plenty of cash forall that Sparking Zero DLC, eh?
One Modder Already Made Goku Bald
While there are no official mod tools as of yet, given that the game hasn’t even launched, there are some… interesting creations out there.
The most notable of which comes from modder @SaitsuMD, who has already shaved Kakarot by “surgically attaching Vegeta’s bald head to Goku’s with duct tape”. It’s uncanny, but you’re able to download it from Game Banana right now if you really want.
This mod does a pretty good job at explaining why the bounty has been made. It uses in-game assets to change how Goku looks, rather than implementing custom ones. With the mod tools that Zenin is calling on the community to develop, we could see all sorts of interesting additions to Sparking Zero, from Omni-Man to Naruto and L. We’ll just have to wait to see if fans will rise to the challenge.
