After a very long year of waitingand seeing endless “Wishlist Now” messages, we’re finally nearing the finish line asDragon Ball: Sparking Zero releases in just a few weeks on October 11.While we now know most of the game’s roster, modes, and features, there are a few things about the fourth Budokai Tenkaichi game that we don’t know much about.

One of the biggest examples of this is Sparking Zero’s online functionalities. While we know it has online modes and have heard a little about its attempt to balance some of the more overpowered characters on the roster, we’ve not seen much of it in action and it remains a bit of a question mark. That also applies to its crossplay functionality.

Crossplay Seems Unlikely For Dragon Ball: Sparking Zero

Ever since Sparking Zero was first revealed, fans have wondered whether it’d launch with crossplay, something that’s only been detailed on the Japanese website and barely commented on in the months since. IIGN recently had the chance to speak with Sparking Zero’s producer, Jun Furutani, where they asked him whether or not crossplay is going to be supported as they didn’t believe it’s “currently planned”.

In response, Furutani (whose answer appears to have been translated) said that it’s “very difficult” to explain and that the short answer is that there’s a complicated process the team has to go through in order to have crossplay functionality in the game. This confirms once more that it’s not going to be in Sparking Zero at launch, but it sounds like it might not be in at all.

One of those touchy subjects, that’s very difficult for him to explain. The short professional answer is, yeah, there’s a difficult that we have to go through to get cross play to work. - Jun Furutani

IGN’s question also specified whether Sparking Zero could get crossplay as a post-launch update, which makes Furutani’s answer seem like it’s in response to that as well. While it definitely isn’t in the game at launch, there is a small chance it gets added later on in Sparking Zero’s lifetime, as Furutani says that it was “difficult” and not impossible.

It’s worth bearing in mind, thatit took Dragon Ball FighterZ an extraordinary amount of time to get rollback netcodeas part of its post-launch, and that was something that fans were even more passionate about. It might be best to just assume that Sparking Zero isn’t getting the feature and will require you to play on the same console as your friends.
