Summary
TheSega Dreamcastturns 25 this week. 25 years sinceSega’s last roll of the dice in the console game and one that didn’t produce the results it needed to stop the studio from making a permanent move to just making games rather than consoles too. Even though the Dreamcast was the final nail in Sega’s console-making coffin, selling less than ten million units, it’s looked back on pretty fondly by many of us who were around for its launch. So fondly that its 25th anniversary has been deemed worthy enough of an anniversary collection.
Limited Run Games, which has been responsible for keeping the memories of many older games alive in recent years, has teamed up with Sega to bring us Dreamcast merch in 2024. What a time to be alive. The collection, all of which is available to pre-order from now until June 14, 2025, exclusively at LRG, includes t-shirts and hoodies with the Dreamcast logo on them, a keychain that looks like the console’s VMU, and a commemorative coin.
Best of all, however, are the Dreamcast trading cards and accompanying accessories. LRG has created a Dreamcast trading card game to celebrate a quarter of a century since the console’s release, each of the cards representing a different game that launched on the platform.Sonic Adventure, Jet Set Radio,Crazy Taxi, they’re all there. There’s a hobby box that includes four packs for $24.99 for Dreamcast aficionados who just want to dip their toe, or a $124.99 booster box with 24 packs designed to look like the console.
Limited Run Games Celebrates 25 Years Since The Launch Of The Dreamcast
If you really want your Dreamcast TCG collection to feel complete, the anniversary range also includes themed card sleeves, a binder, and a storage box. Between that and the skate deck - which you can also pre-order now for $74.99 - it very much feels like LRG and Sega know their audience. All items that are going to appeal to 30-somethings like me who have a soft spot for the Dreamcast and wish it hadn’t spelled the end for Sega’s consoles.
Sega Dreamcast Trading Cards
Limited Run Games teamed up with Sega to celebrate the Dreamcast’s 25th anniversary, and the crown jewel of the celebratory collection was a set of trading cards to celebrate the console. Various titles that launched on the Dreamcast are represented and you can get a four-pack hobby box or a 24-pack booster box.
Sega Dreamcast T-Shirt
Part of a collection Limited Run Games curated alongside Sega to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Dreamcast, this t-shirt features the retro console’s logo with its release date on the sleeve.
One of the main reasons the Dreamcast failed was because by the time it arrived,PlayStationhad taken its place. PlayStation has begun its own anniversary celebrations as it prepares to turn 30. No retro collection courtesy of LRG like the Dreamcast, at least not yet. you may pre-order a PlayStation board game, some magnetic blocks, and toys designed to relieve stress between gaming sessionsin a collection that has been dubbed Shapes Of Play.
