Summary
WhileDying Light: The Beastwas largely made in response to leaks, the upcoming DLC turned standalone titlehas re-energized Techland in all the best ways. That energy has pushed the Polish video game developer and publisher to continue to want to nurture its zombie-based franchise.
As part of an interview with Play Magazine and as transcribed by GamesRadar, director Tymon Smektala shared that the team is “remotivated” since shifting gears to turn The Beast from a DLC to its own thing. The Beast, according to Smektala, “remotivated us to work on Dying Light.”
The Leaks Could Have Been Damaging
For those who might not recall,Techland experienced a series of leaks in the leadup to the release of Dying Light 2 in 2022. Beyond detailing the first two hours of the still-to-be-released game, future plans and concepts were also unearthed unwillingly, including stuff for what is now The Beast.
The team at Techland didn’t want to proceed with business as usual, particularly knowing that its most dedicated Dying Light fans had likely been exposed to the leaks, either by choice or via bad actors. As a result, The Beast was born from some of the ideas that were planned, along with some new concepts.
Kyle Crane is back, and that has art director Katarzyna Tamcka excited as that is her dream project. The team was also able to get Roger Craig Smith back to reprise his role as Crane. Currently, her goal is to “focus on this and soak in every moment.” Meanwhile, the rest of Techland is just as excited, despite some initial nerves and reported “agitation” due to nerves about the game’s scope and future.
That said, those nerves have disappeared, and it appears that The Beast is a full go. While it doesn’t have a release date, or even a release window for that matter, it’s probably safe for gamers to put their trust in Techland based off these comments.
