Speakingin an interview with TheGamer, the series producer/director Tomohiko Sho shared that the team set themselves the goal of having 10,000 soldiers on screen at a given time.
A Scale Like Nothing Before It
During my chat with Sho-san, I asked the producer whether it was difficult pushing thePlayStation 5to its limits, to which he jokingly told me, “For me, it was easy, but I’m just the game director." Instead, he said that the challenge fell to those on the programming team, who set themselves a lofty goal.
“I think the programmers were probably the ones who had the challenge. They wanted to show at least 10,000 soldiers on the screen. That was also their ambition. It was probably difficult for them to do that, but they really worked hard, and I think you can see that with how it appears on the screen.”

Sho-san told me that the team had always had ambitions as grand as this, but “Origins is something that can only be made in this day and age.” He added that the team had been limited by technology in the past, but “With the current generation of consoles and PCs, we were really able to explore this.”
Having this many soldiers on screen allowed Dynasty Warriors: Origins to return to its roots, something which Sho-san had been hoping for a while. “What we wanted to do is really get back to the basics of the series - the tactical action,” admitting that it has been “a little bit on the lower side” in recent entries.
