After completing Phase 2 of the Space Elevator inSatisfactory, you will unlock Tier 5 and 6 Milestones. These progression checkpoints are squarely in the mid-game, where things start to get more complicated as you expand your factory even further.
Tier 5 Milestones are mainly centered around products created using the new fluid Crude Oil, which can be used to produce resources like Rubber, Plastic, and Fuel. Below, we’ll take a look at every Tier 5 Milestone, what it unlocks, how to complete them, and some tips for progressing through this Tier.
Tier 5 Milestones
There are five Tier 5 Milestones to unlock. As mentioned above, these mostly relate toCrude Oil, including its production and various uses.
Here’s each Tier 5 Milestone and how to unlock it.
Jetpack
+3 Inventory Slots
The Jetpack Milestone unlocks the equipment of the same name. The Jetpack allows you toburn fuel to ascend into the airfor a short period of time, letting you reach high-up places or avoid fall damage. While it may not be as maneuverable as the Hoverpack, unlocked in Tier 7, the Jetpack is great when searching for Power Slugs, Mercer Spheres, and Somersloops.
Fuel
New Shop Products
The Oil Processing Milestone is a necessary step for expanding your factory. This Milestone unlocks the ability toharvest Crude Oilthat can be turned intoPlastic and Rubber, two resources that will become vital very shortly.
Crude Oil can also be used to make Fuel, which can be used to power theFuel-Powered Generatorthat you’ll unlock in thePetroleum Power Milestonelater. Fuel can also be packaged after unlocking theFluid Packaging Milestone, which lets you use it with the Jetpack or vehicles, offering a more efficient option than coal or Biomass.
Conveyor Lift Mk.4
Truck
The Mk.4 version of the Conveyor Belts has the ability to transfer up to480 items per minute, which lets you take full advantage offully Overclocked Mk.2 Miners on Pure nodes.
This Milestone also unlocks theTruck, which has increased inventory capacity andhigher maximum speedthan the Tractor.
Packaged Liquid Biofuel
Liquid Biofuel
Fluid Packaging lets youturn liquids like Water and Oil into solid objectsthat can betransported with Conveyor Belts, carried in your inventory, transported in a vehicle, or used as fuel for various vehicles. This is done through the newly unlocked Packager building.
Packaging Fluids requires you to useEmpty Canisters, which are crafted in a Constructor using Plastic.
Industrial Fluid Buffer
Scannable Resource: Caterium Ore
The Petroleum Power Milestone unlocks theFuel-Powered Generator, a power generator thatburns Fuel to generate 250 MW of power, overthree times as much as the Coal-Powered Generator. The Fuel-Powered Generator takes a bit to set up, as you need to deal with thebyproduct ofPolymer Resinfrom the Refiners making Fuel.
However, once you have your layout perfected, Fuel-Powered Generators are an essential upgrade over Coal-Powered Generators, as this will let you take back the coal from your previous power plants and use it in a more helpful way, like producing steel parts.
This Milestone also unlocksCaterium Ore, if you haven’t already unlocked it by finding a small cluster and researching in the MAM. This material is mainly used in the production ofQuickwireand its related products.
Goals And Tips For Tier 5
Your first objective in Tier 5 is to unlock theOil Processing Milestoneto gain access toRefineriesand all the benefits they provide. This will then let youturn Crude Oil into Plastic and Rubber, both of which are necessary for unblocking the remaining Tier 5 Milestones (except for Jetpacks).
We recommend focusing on thePetroleum Power Milestonenext, as this is a great step up in power production from Coal-Powered Generators. Setting up a dedicated Fuel power plant will let you add even more machines to your factory.
While you won’t be able to work on the Space Elevator deliveries until you unlock the Industrial Manufacturing Milestone in Tier 6,expanding your power gridandsetting up infrastructure for more machinesearly will help you greatly later. Additionally, you may start thinking about how to set upTrains, also unlocked in Tier 6, bypathing outpotential train stations and railways.
Overall, there’s quite a bit to learn in Tier 5, so we recommend experimenting with Crude Oil production, Fuel-Powered Generators, and packaging Liquids slowly as you work on these Milestones and those in Tier 6.
