Baldur’s Gate 3’s Patch 7 has certainly proved fruitful for the more evil-minded adventurers among us, adding a slew ofnew evil endingsfor both The Dark Urge and each of the origin characters. However, where’s the love for those who overcome their evil nature through great struggle and sacrifice?
As is typically the case whenever a new patch is released for Baldur’s Gate 3, fans are already filing their requests for future updates. One particular plight involves the redeemed version of the Dark Urge, and how the other companions don’t have a lot of reactivity or affection for this character.
A thread onReddit, as well as on theLarian forumsby the same poster, is calling upon Larian Studios to make some final tweaks to The Dark Urge’s redemption arc before they cease updating Baldur’s Gate 3.
Resist the Urge
There are two specific instances pointed out by the threads. The first occurs when the party meets Gortash for the first time. Gortash reveals the nature of The Dark Urge’s birth, shocking both the player and their companions. Some of the community feels the reactions of the companions to this information are too harsh towards a redeemed Dark Urge who has been making morally good decisions and is possibly in a romantic relationship with one of them.
The second “bigger” problem with the arc of a redeemed Dark Urge is during the ‘good’ ending when Dark Urge stabs themselves. The companions present don’t react to the death and subsequent revival of the player, making it seem like they don’t care about the fate of Durge, a reaction some fans take issue with.
The companions of Baldur’s Gate 3 don’t always have appropriate reactions to every plot event but perhaps this is more keenly felt by redeemed Dark Urge who feel they should be cut some slack for constantly resisting their character’s murderous urges.
The only changes Larian has announced for future patches are the implementation of crossplay and a photo mode, but the team has been tweaking various narrative elements every patch so who knows what Patch 8 will bring?
