Fatal Fury Producer Oda-San Thinks An Anime Would Be “Really Cool”
I asked Oda-san whether the SNK team had considered any transmedia adaptations forFatal Fury, given the series' return after a 26-year hiatus and the recent changes in sentiment on video game adaptations. He gleefully responded, “It’d be really cool if we had a Fatal Fury anime.” However, the thought didn’t come without some concerns.
“It just depends on who you get to do it, the style, how to do it properly, you know. But yeah, it’d be wild, right? It’d be really cool,” he added.
It’d be really cool if we had a Fatal Fury anime.
With a vast roster of characters, a rich history of storytelling within the fighting game world, and a striking new art style,City of the Wolvesseems a prime candidate for adaptation. However, it’s clearly not at the forefront of theSNKteam’s mind, with the game releasing in a little over six months.
“A lot has changed, especially in the esports space,” Oda-san told me, adding, “After 26 years, we’re finally able to bring this new installment into the series. People have been waiting for it, so it’s definitely a big relief, and I’m just extremely happy that we’re here.”
During our chat, Oda-san also shared his dream guest characters for City of the Wolves, which strangely included Michael Jacksonand details abouthow Terry Bogard made his way into Super Smash Bros. Ultimate.
