Summary

Remedy surprised us at Thursday’s Xbox Showcase with an unexpected reveal on top ofthe expected Alan Wake 2 DLC release date announcement. Turns out the studio has been working on its first-ever online multiplayer game too,FBC Firebreak. Clearly eager for as many people to play Firebreak as possible, the multiplayer shooter will be coming to bothXbox Game PassandPlayStation Pluson day one.

Since Firebreak was revealed during an Xbox Showcase, the trailer didn’t make any mention of it coming toPS5. We might haveSea Of Thieveson PlayStation now, but the console war isn’t over yet. A trailer shared after the Showcase confirmed that Firebreak will be available on PS5 and Steam, and a press release (thanks,Stephen Totilo) that accompanied it confirmed a day one arrival on the competing subscription services.

FBC Firebreak Will Be On Game Pass And PS Plus Day One

Remedy Wants As Many Of Us Playing This Game As Possible

As far as I’m aware, there has only been one other game to have pulled this off since PlayStation’s new tiered Plus system was in place, and that’s 2023’sSea Of Stars.Knockout Cityalso did something similar in 2021 as it was available on Game Pass and also given away as a PS Plus monthly game, but that was before the service had been split into tiers. It also eventually went free-to-play and has since been shut down.

Remedy will be hoping Firebreak doesn’t suffer the same fate as Knockout City and will have been keeping track of what has been happening on the live service landscape lately. The Control studio actually claims Firebreak isn’t a live service game. There are a lot of lessons to be learned fromConcord’s disastrous launch, in particular, and not releasing the game on PS Plus may well be one of them. By launching Firebreak on Game Pass and PS Plus day one, Remedy will hopefully ensure a lot of people at least give it a try.

A firm release date for FBC Firebreak hasn’t been confirmed, but we do know it will be here in 2025. Remedy has not only quickly become one of the most beloved studios in the world right now, but it has quickly become one of the busiest. On top of its Alan Wake 2 DLC and Firebreak, there’s alsoa Max Payne 1+2 remakein the workson top of a Control sequel.
