Summary
Final Fantasy 14has an order called the Scions of the Seventh Dawn of which the player character is a key member, and they’ve been around more or less since the beginning, with many of their ranks serving as major allies throughout the various expansions. But lately, they’ve had little and less to do, with fans complaining about their plot armour and lack of development.
Our own Deputy Executive Editor Ryan Bamsey wrote about howDawntrail should have left behind the Scions entirely, while fellow News Editor Joshua Robertson argued in July thatit’s time tokillanother Scion. Not much is being done with them, and the community wants that to change even if it means paving the way for something else entirely. But director Naoki ‘Yoshi-P’ Yoshida is conflicted.
Speaking toPCGamesN, Yoshida said of long-established characters like the Scions getting new story arcs, “When it comes to this, I’m really, really torn. Honestly speaking, and this corresponds to 7.0, I wanted to see what sort of a reaction we would get from the players.”
The Main Cast Is Too Big To Keep Bringing Back
One of the problems is that there are so many Scions and old characters who have been introduced over the years via the many expansions, and so Yoshi-P wanted to “bring them a sense of grounding” with Dawntrail.
Looking forward, however, he wants “things to calm down” and says that “incorporating all of the characters whenever we release an expansion” would be “too much”.
Instead, going forward, expansions will look at specific characters or perhaps even just the Warrior of Light journeying alone without anyone by their side. That could mean leaving Scions behind at long last, or it could mean narrowing the focus to a select few.
