Summary
The team behind The Day Before, the disastrous open-world MMO that was more in line with extraction shooters, are back and have rebranded. Oh, and they want more money.
Taking to Twitter, Fntastic shared that it is using Kickstarter to help generate funds in order to bring the studio back.A link to the studio’s website houses the following statement:
We deeply apologize to everyone for The Day Before and take full responsibility for what happened.
There, the team has developed a “plan,” which outlines how they’ll overcome their past mistakes, as well as the next game they are developing. That game is called “Escape Factory,” and it’s “a physics-based multiplayer co-op escape game set in dangerous factories for 4–8 players.”
How Many Times Do We Have To Teach You This Lesson?
The plan, which can be accessed here, says that the team will use three principals to guide them — honesty, transparency and professionalism. Elsewhere, several “strategic objectives” have also been outlined, including a focus on community engagement, development standards and brand identity, among other goals.
An FAQ answers why exactly the team decided to broach a comeback after its past failure.
After the closure, we reflected on our past mistakes and initiated significant internal changes to drive radical improvement.
We’ve discontinued the practice of involving external volunteers and are now fully committed to a more professional approach.
Honesty, transparency, and community engagement have become our top priorities.
Having learned from our past mistakes, we’ve developed Fntastic 2.0, a plan for recovery.
As part of the planned comeback, the team has created a Kickstarter. Should the goal of $15,535 fail to be met within the next 29 days, then those who participate will have their money refunded, and the studio will shut down once more.
Currently, the Kickstarter has just $222 pledged, which is spread between 10 backers. To that end, the team has included several rewards tiers for backers, including a near $10,000 USD tier that grants funders a dinner with Fntastic, a Discord title, game credit recognition, a copy of the game and a spot on the website’s supporters wall.
Only time will tell if this plan will be successful, though as of right now, it seems highly unlikely that it’ll generate the necessary funds. Then, again, stranger things have happened.
