Summary

Fortnitedataminers have managed to get the upcoming Fishpool skin working in-game, revealing that his accessory is a nod to theDeadpool and Wolverinepopcorn bucket.

The latest season of Fortnite, Absolute Doom, has alreadyadded a bunch of Marvel crossovers and references into the gamebut, as evidenced byDisney’s deal with Epic, the collaborations are far from over. Earlier this year at D23,we even got a teaser for a crossover skin that is yet to be released- Fishsticks and Deadpool’s ungodly lovechild, Fishpool.

Even though it’s been months since that first tease was made and there have already been several Marvel and Fortnite mashups since then (such as Peelverine and Ghost Ri-durrr), Fishpool has strangely been kept away from the shop, to the annoyance of several Fortnite insiders. That seems like it’s about to change though.

Fortnite’s Fishpool Is Nearly Here And He’s Bringing A Popcorn Bucket

Yesterday, reliable Fortnite insider iFireMonkey confirmed that Fishpool has finally been decrypted, which means that his files are in the game and should be made available in the near future. Not only does this give us a good look at Fishpool’s in-game model instead of the doodle we received at D23, but it also revealed his easter-eggy bit of Backbling.

As you can see from the tweet above, Fishpool’s Backbling is a kelp-corn bucket that’s shaped like his face, with the description reading, “Souvenir bucket for your freshly popped kelp-corn”.This is a clear reference to the infamous popcorn buckets that were released for Deadpool and Wolverine, only this time it’s the fishy Merc with a Mouth getting the treatment instead of Wolverine.

Collectible popcorn buckets have been a thing for a while now, but they’ve really taken offafter all the buzz around the strangely suggestive Dune oneand then Deadpool and Wolverine’s purposefully risque go at things.

Of course, Fishpool’s popcorn bucket is a whole lot less suggestive than the real-world one, with the popcorn (or kelp-corn, whatever your preference) coming out of the top of his head instead of from his mouth. I won’t explain that one to you, but it makes sense that Fortnite wouldn’t be able to make the same joke. Let’s just be glad that Peelverine didn’t get the same treatment, because god knows what that’d look like.
