Freedom Wars Remaster Has Fans Hoping For More Vita Re-releases.
The Freedom Wars Remaster announcement was a complete bolt from the blue on Wednesday morning. Posted asa video across social media, Bandai Namco confirmed that the 2014 Vita cult classic would be returning to consoles in January 2025.
Playing as a Sinner with a million-year prison sentence in a dystopian future, Freedom Wars sees players fight for their freedoms in a repressed, resource-scarce world.
The game had a limited audience, reportedlyselling less than 700,000 copies, but those who played it loved it. This led to a furor online following the remake’s announcement, with dozens of threads popping up on Reddit celebrating the trailer.
However, while many were happy that Freedom Wars is indeed back, it was near-impossible to read the threads without a mention of a Soul Sacrifice return.
Soul Sacrifice was another Vita title, developed by Sony’s Japan Studio and Marvelous. The legendaryKeiji Inafunecreated the premise.
The calls for a remake of this title were loud, with players begging, “Please do Soul Sacrifice next,” a sentiment echoedoverandoveragain.
Onefan exclaimed, “Soul Sacrifice would do great in today’s market,” withanother adding, “Soul Sacrifice especially is such a great, unique gameplay experience with a story that sticks with you. It would be amazing to see Soul Sacrifice Delta remastered for the modern gamer.”
While the ball is truly in Sony’s court for this one, it let the license go for Freedom Wars, so here’s hoping it does the same for Soul Sacrifice.
