Summary

Funko Fusion, the video game that blends theFunko! Popline of figurines and the many popular culture IPs that it collaborates with into one package, is finally here. The four-player action title that isn’t all too dissimilar from theLegogames has the likes of Jaws,Jurassic Parkand The Mummy among its levels. Oh, yeah, and KFC.

Indeed, the United States-based Kentucky Fried Chicken fast food chain of restaurants is one of several properties in Funko Fusion, for whatever reason. And in celebration of that crossover, KFC is giving away an exclusive pair of Colonel Sanders, KFC’s founder turned mascot, skins to players.

KFC Funko Fusion Costume

There’s just one catch, though; you have to buy $25 worth of fried chicken to get it.

Mecha Colonel Is Going To Cost You

According to KFC’s official website, the Chef Colonel and Mecha Colonel skins are exclusive to U.S. customers aged 18 or older. The Chef Colonel skin is free, but Mecha Colonel requires 250 points. For every $1 spent, KFC Rewards members will earn 10 points, making the skin cost $25.

As far as food is concerned, $25 gets you a 14-piece meal or 50 nuggets, or some five variations of KFC’s $5 meal deals. Either way, it’s a lot of food for one skin.

This Isn’t The First Pay-To-Earn Skin

And if you’re thinking the prices of skins have gotten way out of hand, then the KFC promo is just one of a handful of retailer-specific skins.

Just recently,we reported how Call of Duty: Black Ops 6’s gold lightning weapon camo is locked behind a limited-edition $350 Wunderwaffle prop replica that’s exclusive to the Call of Duty online store.

Before that,we noted how WWE 2K24 had an action-figure-based Hulk Hogan skin that required players to purchase an actual action-figure in real-life, then submit the receipt for a code. Thatfigure ran a touch over $20, and was a timed promotion.

In other words, Funko Fusion’s KFC skin is more or less par for the course when it comes to video games in this day and age. It doesn’t make it any less weird, but it appears to be a trend that isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
