Freedom Planet looks and feels a lot like Sonic without actually being a Sonic game. You play as Lilac as she tries to fend off an alien invasion that threatens her home. This game feels fantastic on handheld systems as well as on bigger screens. With pixel graphics and satisfying running animations, it often feels like you’re playing a title from the Sega Genesis era of gaming. Freedom Planet offers an adventure mode and a time attack mode for those who like to go fast.

Demon Turf is a colorful platformer that puts you in the shoes of Beebz, who wants to be the demon queen. If you love the colorful worlds and obstacles of the Sonic franchise, then you will love the style of Demon Turf. This 3D Platformer has 2D sprites for Beebz as she runs through different obstacles to get to the finish line.

Peppino Spaghetti is the stressed-out owner of a pizza restaurant. The main cause of his stress is the Pizza Tower, where a being known as Pizzaface resides. After he threatens to destroy Peppino’s Pizzeria with a laser, Peppino must run through the tower and destroy it before he loses everything that he owns.

Peppino may not be as confident as Sonic, but he can be just as fast. If you keep running, Peppino will only get faster and defeating enemies in a chain allows you to start a satisfying combo. Once a stage is completed though, you must then make a dash back to the entrance before time runs out. In this game, you are constantly on the move.

Celeste, she encounters an evil doppelgänger, ghosts, and the ruins of a city. Sonic character designs are unique, with big eyes, gloves, and sneakers. If you’re a fan of this character design as well as the 3D look of the game, then check out Klonoa Phantasy Reverie Series. This is a collection of two Klonoa games, Klonoa: Door to Phantomile and Klonoa 2: Lunatea’s Veil, with the characters looking like they would belong in the same world.

Both games are 2.5D side scrolling platformers that have you collecting gems and defeating bosses in their own arenas. You can grab enemies and toss them around.
