Summary
The Witcher TV showhasstruggled to keep fans on board in recent years, mostly thanks to the departure of Geralt actor Henry Cavill. There have been plenty of criticisms surrounding the show in the aftermath of that announcement,whether it be due to dodgy setsor scenes that go against the official lore set out by the series author, Andrzej Sapkowski.
However, the show must go on, and new Geralt actor Liam Hemsworth has the extremely unenviable task of picking up where Cavill left off. We’ve yet to see Hemsworth in action, having only been givena brief clip of the actor’s version of Geraltsince it was announced he would be taking over, but he’s been saying the right things recently to try and appeal to fans of the series.
First spotted byRedanian Intelligence, Hemsworth was recently invited ontoLIVE With Kelly and Mark(an American talk show) to discuss his upcoming movie Lonely Planet. At the start of the interview, Hemsworth explains that he’s been shooting in Wales for The Witcher, making this interview the first time the actor has discussed his new role as Geralt since its announcement.

Hemsworth then goes on to discuss how he got the role, explaining that he hadn’t seen the TV show or read the books, but that he really enjoyed The Witcher 3 when it came out. He then goes on to claim that he was excited to take on the role of Geralt when Netflix came calling, because he was a fan of the video game, and calls The Witcher 3 “one of the best video games of all time.”
“I hadn’t seen the TV show. And I hadn’t read the books. But I played the video game like ten years ago or something. And it’s still to this day one of the best video games of all time. And Netflix came to me almost two years ago now and said that they wanted me to just step in and take over.”
While he may not be the megafan of the series that Henry Cavill was, which is why fans of the show were so connected to him in the first place, it’s clear that Hemsworth is a fan of The Witcher in general. The Witcher 3 was a game that made a lot of fans of the series, so a lot of viewers may see a bit of a kindred spirit in him. Now let’s keep our fingers crossed that Hemsworth actually delivers.
