Summary

AGhost of Tsushimasequel is real, and it’ll be coming toPlayStation 5with presumably enhancements for PS5 Pro very soon. The sequel to 2020s action-adventure hit fromSucker Punchreceived an extended announcement trailer at the end of Tuesday’s PlayStation State of Play.

Officially titled Ghost of Yotei, the game will take place in the Mount Yotei region in 1603. Perhaps the most interesting bit from the teaser is that the original protagonist, Jin Sakai, was nowhere to be found. What originally appeared to be Sakai was then revealed to be a woman.

The announcement trailer ended with a 2025 release window, meaning the game will be coming sooner than anyone could have imagined.

The meaty trailer was full of hints of what exactly the game could be like, with three elements in particular standing out. The first being potentially a wolf companion to fight alongside the protagonist. The second notable aspect is the protagonist is shown wielding two swords, possibly hinting at a dual blade-like stance. And the final noteworthy tidbit came at the very end when a gun was showcased which might end up being an additional weapon.

While Tuesday’s State of Play promised news and updates on over 20 titles, it typically isn’t tradition for any first-party reveals as those are usually saved for a PlayStation Showcase, but as with any presentation, surprises are bound to happen and Ghost of Yotei was exactly that.

Ghost of Tsushima Was A Smash Hit

The first Ghost of Tsushima originally debuted on the PlayStation 4 in the summer of 2020. It represented a new step for Sucker Punch, who previously worked on inFamous, as well as the beloved Sly Cooper series.

Launching to critical acclaim, Ghost of Tsushima received two massive updates following its release. The first, titled Ghost of Tsushima: Legends, brought multiplayer to what was originally a single-player title. Then, down the line, the game received a single-player expansion in the form of Iki Island.

Eventually, Ghost of Tsushima received a PS5 enhanced version via the Director’s Cut edition in 2021, and the game eventually made its way to PC earlier this year in May.

Its success has led to a planned film adaption, with Chad Stahelski of John Wick fame serving as its director. In June,it was reported that Hiroyuki Sanada, a prominent Japanese actor, who most recently starred in FX’s Shogun series, would have a role. As of this writing, his role has not been confirmed.

Tuesday’s teaser was one of just several noteworthy announcements from the State of Play. Elsewhere,Astro Bot’s DLC was also revealed, along witha release date for Dynasty Warriors: Origins,Lego Horizon AdventuresandMonster Hunter Wilds
