Summary
God of War Ragnarökis officially out onPCas of today, and it brings a wealth of new features to the table.Unlocked framerates, upscaling tech and support for ultra widescreen monitors are all possible on a PC, though the best feature has almost nothing to do with technological advancements.
That’s because God of War Ragnarök’s PC release will finally let players mute Atreus, as well as Freya. It’s a PC exclusive feature for now, but it will soon make its way to the PS5 and PS4 versions of the game, according to Sony.
The Boy Will No Longer Talk
It’s important to note that Atreus or Freya won’t be muted completely. The feature is a “Reduced Puzzle Hints Option,” which will stop either of them from blurting out the solution to a puzzle before you’ve had a chance to think things through. But considering their propensity to yammer out hints, it’s effectively a mute button.
Because the alternative, which launch-day players had to deal with, is this:
Sony Has Muted Its Protagonists Before
God of War Ragnarök’s reduced hints option won’t be the first time that a mute button has been patched into aSonygame.
Gamers might recall that back in 2022, Guerilla Games patchedHorizon Forbidden Westto stop Aloy from mentioning her stash as often as she previously did.The team at Guerila even made it a point to include that update in their Patch 1.06 notes on Reddit, writing, “Aloy will not mention her stash quite as often as before.”
Prior to the patch, Aloy constantly mentioned her stash when the player picked up any sort of item from the world. It was bad enough that it became a meme amongPlayStationfans. It seems like Sony’s protagonists have a bad habit of talking too much, and their studios aren’t afraid to mute them via a patch down the line. Atreus just happens to be the latest example in a long line of chatty characters.
