Summary

In the leadup toGod of War Ragnarök’srelease onSteam, we coveredhow PlayStation and Santa Monica added a unique new feature called “Reduced Puzzle Hints Option.“The feature effectively hits the mute button on Atreus and Freya and prevents them from blurting out the solution to puzzles and other elements before the player has had a chance to think.

Apparently, that wasn’t enough.

A new PC mod, appropriately titled, “Please Shut Up (Companion Mute Mod)“takes things even further by removing hundreds of pieces of useless dialogue. The end result is an experience filled with less yapping and more bliss.

Over 2,000 Pieces Of Dialogue Have Been Yanked

According to the mod’s page on Nexus Mods, awebsite dedicated to housing PC mods, the Please Shut Up mod has removed over 2,500 pieces of useless dialogue and counting.

Its official description is as follows:

Tired of companions telling you things you already know? Tired of the game treating you like a child if you don’t instantly solve every puzzle? This mod removes over 2500+ pointless/patronising voice lines from the game.

Examples of some of these lines, besides obvious puzzle hints, are things like Mimir telling Kratos that he is on fire or companions telling Kratos that he needs to block an attack. The update by Sony Santa Monica ahead of the PC release apparently hasn’t done enough to remove those bits, so that’s where the creator Mophead decided to come in.

They stress that the mod is a work in progress, and while 2,500-plus pieces of dialogue have been removed, there is a lot more work to be done. The challenge will come from puzzle dialogue that is woven into story exposition or cutscenes, and it is a focus for future versions of the mod, provided that it is popular enough to warrant an update.

Still, it’s a pretty helpful mod, and one that will likely remain up for a while. Not unlike the bypass PSN mod that was swiftly taken down over fear of Sony retaliation.
