Summary

A PC mod that allowed players to bypass the PlayStation Network requirements ofGod of War Ragnarök’sPCreleasehas been removed from Nexus Modsover fear of potential retaliation fromSony.

The mod, which was developed by a user named iArtoriasUA, allowed PC players to circumvent the need to have a PSN account in order to play Ragnarök.That requirement drew the ire of gamers, leading to “Mixed” reviews on Steam, with many panning the requirement for a primarily single-player-based game.

However, after quickly gaining popularity online, the user took down the mod altogether from Nexus Mods,a site dedicated to housing different augmentations. Thepage where the mod once was accessible is no longer online. That move led many to speculate that the mod had been taken down by Sony, however, that is not the case.

Instead, it was a preemptive move.

A Statement Has Been Issued By The Creator

Facing intense speculation about the mod’s status,Nexus decided to follow up with the creator via a chat that they then shared on Twitter. The creator cleared the air about their decision, writing:

Hello, that was my personal decision because the mod has got too much attention (even IGN and PC Gamer) wrote an article about it, thus I thought that it would be better to remove it from public to avoid any potential threats from Sony side (even though the project never modified anything in memory related to Sony products, but better be safe than sorry). I am sorry that it happened, but I cannot put myself into risk since it was unclear.

Hopefully you understand. Peace!

With the mod officially inaccessible, gamers will have to follow the established guidelines set forth in the Steam release. That said, it is possible for the mod to make its way via other means, like someone sharing it online. However, officially it is dead. The good news is that it wasn’t Sony’s doing. But given how quickly the mod rose in popularity, that surely could’ve been the case within a matter of days.
