Summary

Earlier this month, it was claimed by a staff writer at GTABase thatGrand Theft Auto 6 had already been internally delayed. Instead of launching in the intended Fall 2025 release window, this writer claimed that the game had been pushed back to early/mid 2026 and suggested that he’d been talking to reputable industry insiders like Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier about the full story.

We’ve yet to hear that full story, but this news was enough to send excited GTA fans into meltdown. A former Rockstar developer later tried to calm things down byclaiming it’s likely far too early for Rockstar to decide whether a delay is necessary, and now publisher Take-Two Interactive has shot down those rumors entirely.According to the company’s 2024 annual report,GTA 6is still expected to release within its original release window.

If you dive into the report itself and hack your way through all the corporate jargon, you’ll see that Take-Two Interactive has claimed that “Rockstar Games continues to invest in the franchise and plans to release Grand Theft Auto VI in the Fall of calendar 2025,” pretty much shutting down all the delay rumors immediately.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Could Still Be Delayed

We’re Not Out Of The Woods Yet

These comments have shut down rumors for now, but that doesn’t mean they won’t crop up again.Pretty much every game Rockstar has released since GTA 3 has been delayed, ranging from just a single week to an entire year. Both Red Dead Redemption games were delayed twice before they released, and even GTA 5’s next-gen release was delayed by four months.

It has been claimed byBloomberg’s Jason Schreierthat a delay for Grand Theft Auto 6 is a very real possibility, and while this particular game is carrying a massive amount of importance for Take-Two Interactive’s earnings for the fiscal year, Rockstar’s history of game development suggests that a delay is pretty likely. We’ll have to wait and see whether Rockstar manages to buck that trend.
