Summary
Indie developer Nomada Studio still has no plans for Gris 2, saying that the first game was released as a “complete package”.
This comes from Nomada Studio’s lead producer Roger Mendoza, whosat down with TheGamer’s Meg Pelliccio. Here, Mendoza shed some light on the studio’s plans for aGrissequel, explaining that while the idea of one hasn’t been ruled out, we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.
Gris Developer Discusses Chances Of A Sequel
“I mean, it always depends on the size of the cheque,” laughs Mendoza, when asked about the chances of the studio working on Gris 2. “you may never say never, of course, but no, it’s not in our minds. When we’re talking about other projects that we have in mind, Gris 2 is not one of them, for sure."
While this does mean that there’s still a chance, we shouldn’t hold our breath, as Mendoza explains that a follow-up was never in mind for Gris. “Maybe one day we have a super cool idea that fits well into the narrative and the context, but even when we were doing Gris, we knew that we were not going to do DLC, we were not going to do the second part," he says.
“It’s a complete package, it works well as an experience, the story starts and ends, so I don’t think it’s going to happen any time soon.”
Gris launched in 2018, initially only available onNintendo SwitchandPC. After a successful launch, the platformer was ported toPS4,PS5,Xbox One,Xbox Series X/S, andmobile. Its most recent rerelease was only a couple of years ago in 2022, so it’s easy to see why some were hoping that a sequel was on the horizon.
Instead of this, however, Nomada Studio is preparing for the release ofits latest game,Neva. This is set to launch on October 15, and will be available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
GRIS
WHERE TO PLAY
Gris is a gorgeously rendered indie game that follows a young woman struggling with grief in her search for acceptance. There are light puzzle-solving and platforming mechanics, but on the whole, Gris is a narrative adventure with a captivating art style.
