GTA 5's Mount Chiliad Easter Egg Was Added To "Mess With People"

One of the greatest things about Rockstar Games' titles is how manyeaster eggs, secrets, and mysteries there are to find throughout its open-world games. Ever since the days of GTA 3, Rockstar has liked hiding as many things as possible for players to find, even though most of the secrets end up going unanswered.

Over the last year and a bit, we’ve finally been finding out the meaning behind many of GTA’s easter eggs,from its size-changing moontoSan Andreas' suicidal planes. One mystery wehaven’tfound out the answer to is perhaps one of the most notorious in gaming history - the mural that can be found at the top of Mount Chiliad in GTA 5.

For those that don’t know,GTA 5’s Mount Chiliad is hiding a number of secrets, from a UFO that appears once you’ve reached 100 percent to a message scratched on an observation deck. The most infamous, though,is a mural pictured on the lift station that shows numerous symbols, including a massive easter egg, a jetpack, and a UFO.

Fans have been trying to figure out what this mural means for more than a decade now with no results. If you’re one of those that hopes the answer to the mystery is still out there, it might be time to call it quits, asformer Rockstar designer Ben Hinchliffe has commented on it in a recent interviewwith YouTuber Dan Dawkins (thanks GamesRadar+).

Hinchliffe says that he wasn’t involved in the Mount Chiliad mystery, but that Rockstar always has a “desire” to put in complex easter egg unts and trails for “dedicated players”. That being said, he also notes that Rockstar likes to put in easter eggs “to mess with people” and “drive them a little bit crazy”.

While that’s not direct confirmation that the Mount Chiliad mystery meant nothing all along and was just a prank by Rockstar, it does make sense considering how long the mural has gone unsolved. I personally like the theories that it was hinting towards some of thegame’s cancelled single-player expansions, but I guess we’ll never really know for sure.
