Summary
Last week, it was claimed thatGrand Theft Auto 6has beenhit with a delay, pushing it back into 2026. However, it wasthen reported that this isn’t the case, as severalRockstardevelopers say they have no knowledge about any delay to the game.
Now, a former technical director at Rockstar has shared some insight into the matter, suggesting that it’s too early to say whether GTA 6 has been hit with a delay or not. He highlights that GTA 4 was delayed just four months before its planned release date, meaning that Rockstar may not consider a GTA 6 delay until sometime in 2025.
Former Rockstar Dev Suggests GTA 6 Delay Would Be Decided Next Year, Not Now
As spotted byGamesRadar, developer Obbe Vermeij shared this insight on social media this weekend. While he highlights that he doesn’t have any insider information on how GTA 6’s development is faring, his experience with Rockstar does give us an idea of what we can expect with a hypothetical game delay.
In the replies, he also answers a few questions from fans. Here, he says that, at least based on his experience, Take-Two is unlikely to force a particular release date for GTA 6.
Also, if you were curious about the GTA 4 delay that he mentioned, he says that this was done because the game “wasn’t ready yet”. He adds that it “would have been a mess” if it hit its original release date, arguing that delays are “almost always the right option”.
So, even though it seems that Rockstar hasn’t delayed GTA 6 just yet, that doesn’t mean we’re out of the woods. Once we’re in 2025, that’s when the studio might start thinking about pushing the game back. But right now, it’s aiming to launch some in late 2025.
