Summary

GTA Onlineadded a temporary ‘spooktastic’ game mode for the Halloween season, bringing Online players to North Yankton for the first time ever to fight off hordes of the undead. The area fromGrand Theft Auto 5’s prologue (and a later mission) was previously inaccessible in Online without employing a series of glitches.

Ludendorff Cemetery Survival has proved a massive hit for the live-service title, with the game mode attracting 1.2 million unique players in the few days since its release according toGTA Online Stats(thanks,PCGamer). As noted byX user Tez2, Ludendorff Cemetery Survival has been 260 per cent more successful than Assault on ATT-16, a mode released in August.

Ludendorff Cemetery Survival

North Yankton Zombies

Ludendorff Cemetery Survival is reminiscent of a multiplayer horde shooter, as it includes never-ending waves of zombies and power-ups. You can team up with others or try your hand alone, but the latter is predictably more difficult as every undead in the cemetery is hunting you and only you relentlessly. By all accounts, this game mode isn’t a cakewalk, and you’ll need clever strategy and intelligent resource management to succeed.

If you manage to survive over ten waves, you’ll be awarded with a Ludendorff survivor outfit; a parka over a turtleneck with work pants and heavy boots. If you survive fifteen, you’ll be rewarded with a platinum medal.

The zombies you face in Ludendorff Cemetery Survival are the sprinting type, not the shambling type. As the waves progress, these enemies get increasingly more health and are harder to kill even with powerful weapons. They also catch fire, and yes, if they touch you, you’ll also combust. While most of the enemies are just bullet-spongy undead, they are also undead mages that target you with noxious magic.

It’s not very surprising that this mode caused players to flock back to GTA Online because killing hordes of enemies with friends is always fun, no matter the situation. The novelty doesn’t last forever, which is probably why this is a temporary addition, but for now, good luck in the graveyard.
