The Gunsmith returns inCall of Duty: Black Ops 6, giving players a wide selection of attachments to fine-tune their weapons. You can modify almost every weapon in Black Ops 6 to suit your playstyle, swapping out barrels, stocks, magazines, and more. It’s also your main interface for customizing your weapon’s camos, charms, and decals.
In this guide, we explain how the Gunsmith works, how most attachment categories work, and showcase what most in-game stats actually do. From aiming idle sway delay to sprint delays, we have you covered. But before we jump in, let’s first cover what the Gunsmith is and how it works in this Call of Duty installment.
What Is The Gunsmith?
The Gunsmith is where you customize your weapon attachments in Black Ops 6.Compared to past CoDs, the Gunsmith in BO6 functions closer to Cold War than MW3.Attachments in this installment have major upside, minimal to no downsides, and generally are easy to understand. There aren’t a dozen different underbarrels that all adjust horizontal recoil, for example.
You’ll unlock access to the Gunsmith when you unlock Create-A-Class at Level 4, which can be done through Multiplayer or Zombies matches. When creating a class, hover over a weapon and press the “Gunsmith” button(R on PC, X on Xbox, and Square for PlayStation).
Advanced Stats
While inspecting an attachment, press the “Show Details” button to open the advanced stats menu. This gives numeric values for every attachment in BO6, including your weapon’s default behavior.
This is where the magic happens. you may adjust virtually every core aspect of your weapon from this menu, everything from stocks to lasers. The Gunsmith is also where you customize your gun’s appearance. If you select the “Customize” tab near the top of the screen, you’ll gain access to camo, charm, and decal options.
As for attachments, here’s a rough breakdown of what each category modifies:
Reflex sights and scopes. Improves visual clarity while ADS.
Adjusts the weapon’s bullet velocity, range, and headshot damage.
Modifies aim idle sway and recoil control, usually horizontal.
Influences magazine size, reload speed, and handling stats.
Smaller magazines have better handling and vice versa.
Adjusts sprint-to-fire speed and ADS speed.
Modifies movement speed and flinch resistance.
Greatly improves hipfire accuracy or enables Tactical Stance.
All lasers are visible while ADS.
Fire Mods
Miscellaneous modifiers, including recoil springs, rapid fire mods, and FMJ ammo.
Weapon Stats Explained
Treyarch has streamlined most of the weapon stats in Black Ops 6, but there are still a few terms here that might be confusing to less experienced Call of Duty players. When you inspect an attachment, you might see values that increase “first shot accuracy” or influence “aiming idle sway,” but what exactly do those terms mean? Let’s break it down.
Fire Rate
How quickly this weapon fires. Measured in rounds per minute.
Bolt-action and pump weapons have a rechambering speed stat that’s influenced by fire rate attachments.
1,000 m/s or higher makes your bullets virtually hitscan.
Mini-Map Firing Ping
How long you’ll appear on the minimap when you fire a weapon.
Lower is better. Broken up into horizontal and vertical recoil.
ADS Idle Sway Delay
How long you’re able to aim a weapon before it begins to sway.
Mobility
Movement Speed
Your baseline movement speed. This influences walking, running, and non-ADS strafing.
Reload Quickness
How fast you reload your weapon.
No reload perks exist in BO6. If you want a faster reload, you need to run a lighter mag.
There are no attachments that affect this, just perks.
Recoil Control And Gun Kick
Recoil Control affects your weapon’s horizontal and vertical climb with sustained fire.Weapons with lower recoil stats tend to perform better at longer ranges. You can adjust your Recoil Control with muzzles and certain underbarrel attachments.
RecoilGun Kick affects thevisualrecoil experienced while firing a weapon—i.e. how aggressively your sights shake when you fire. Certain muzzles can help mitigate this. Alternatively, you’re able to adjust your ADS FOV in the options menu to make this effect less pronounced.
ADS Idle Sway Delay is a new stat in Black Ops 6 thatdetermines how long you can aim a weapon before it starts to sway.In past CoD games this was instantaneous, but most weapons in BO6 have a short delay before idle sway kicks in. You can extend this delay with the Target Laser attachment.
Aim Idle Sway itself works the same as in MW2 and MW3. Once the delay hits zero, your gun will sway side-to-side until you stop aiming. The severity of this reticle sway is determined by youraim idle sway. This doesn’t have a numeric value in-game, but you can influence this stat with certain lasers and underbarrel attachments.
Aim Down Sights Speed
If your weapons feel sluggish, you might want to improve your ADS speed.Aim Down Sights Speed influences how quickly you can align your optics in combat.A lower value is always better. For fast-paced gameplay, aim for roughly 200ms.
Tactical Stance ADS time is slightly lower than your weapon’s listed value.
Sprint To Fire Speed
A major contributor to clunky inputs is your weapon’s sprint-to-fire speed.Sprint to Fire dictates how quickly you can start firing a weapon once you stop sprinting. This value is typically rather high on most guns, matching or even exceeding your ADS speed. You generally want this stat to be the same or lower than your ADS speed. The same is also true for slide-to-fire and dive-to-fire speeds.
Tactical Sprint adds a flat 100-200ms delay to your sprint-to-fire delay. Be careful.
