Helldivers 2has been in the hands of players for a little over seven months, so you’d think that any potential mistakes in the game’s cutscenes would have been found and reported by now. Even then, developer Arrowhead probably double and triple checked to make sure its cutscenes were nice and polished before launch, yet despite all of this oversight, a mistake has made itinto the game’s intro cutscene.
This mistake wasfirst spotted by Reddit user Old_Opposite5125(thanksGamesRadar), who noticed that pretty much every weapon being used by soldiers in Helldivers 2’s opening cinematic has no bullets in them. You can physically see that this is the case too, as there’s an empty slot that should be holding a magazine in pretty much every rifle included in a close-up shot. It’s most evident in the show with the soldier giving the camera a thumbs up while his pals put down a Terminid in the background.
Helldivers 2 Dev Confirms Intro Cutscene Mistake Wasn’t Deliberate
It’s such a bizarre omission that you could potentially argue that this was a deliberate choice from Arrowhead, but that theory has gone up in smoke thanks to Helldivers 2 head Johan Pilestedt finding Old_Opposite5125’s post and confirming that it was a mistake.
“I can’t even… haha. This can not be unseen,” says Pilestedt. “I don’t know how many times we reviewed this intro, and no one caught it, even though we have several people with military training on the team. This is a mistake. That it’s taken over 2 years for someone to point it out is crazy!”
That hasn’t stopped some fans from making it an intentional choice in their headcanon. It makes sense, given that the intro cutscene is meant to be propaganda and has a general air of inauthenticity to it to begin with. If Super Earth actually had a man’s family killed in front of him for a promotional video, that would be pretty harsh. Either that,or it’s an Illuminate trick to turn us against each other. I won’t fall for it.
