The Rooftops of the mall at night in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

10Starting The Game At Night

Time Influenced Cutscenes

One segment of the game that players speed through is the intro. Before you can unlock the rest of the mall, you need to go to the Entrance Plaza and get near Barnaby. However, you can stay on the rooftop till the sun goes down and then descend to the mall, where things will look quite different.

Many cutscenes adapt to the costumes you are wearing as well as the time of day that you trigger them. This includes seeing the initial break-in at night and Adam the Clown during the daytime. However, seeing glowing-eyed zombies at night during the initial break-in is by far the rarest sight.

Failing The Tutorial

Speaking of the Entrance Plaza. It is quite difficult to fail this part of the game. All you need to do once the zombies break-in is to make your way up to the staircase. Of course, you might be tempted by the free shotgun dropped by Brian.

If you do happen to fail, you’ll get a slightly different start to your time at the mall. You will wake up in bed in the Security Room as Otis stares at you. Looks like the old man personally saved you fromthe swarms of zombiesdown below.

The Secret Girl From The Intro

One little detail you might not catch at first glance is the identity of Cliff’s granddaughter. When you defeat the machete-wielding Vietnam veteran, he explains why he went off the deep end.

He gives you the keys to the empty store that holds his captive survivors but also shows you a photo of a little girl and her mother. This is the same little girl from the intro of the game. His inability to escape the war mentally is also a contrast to Frank’s own history of getting the scoop and leaving the Wars he covers behind.

Steve Chapman on the floor after being defeated in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

7Steven Chapman’s Long History With Willamette Parkview Mall

A Psychopath’s History

One ofthe most iconic Psychopaths in Dead Risingis Steven Chapman, the manager of Seon’s Food and Stuff. Steven is very attached to his store and won’t allow it to be looted. He also does a good job of protecting it from the undead.

If you look closely at his model, you will notice that he has a name tag that also shows him as a much younger man. In fact, he’s been working at this location for so long that he once had hair. After dedicating his entire life to working at the supermarket, it’s no wonder he clung to it during the outbreak.

Frank West present as Brad dies in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

A Missable Cutscene

One major part of the story is easy to skip by accident. This is the death of Brad after his encounter with Carlito. After thwarting the plot to blow up the mall, Brad finds himself surrounded by zombies.

You won’t be prompted to do so, but if you go back underground close to where you found the maintenance key, you will get a cutscene where Brad has some final words with Frank before turning into a zombie. This is also how you get the Snuff Shot B achievement.

Thomas Hall chooses to stay with his family in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

5Sparing Thomas Hall

The Least Guilty Of The Three

Thomas Hall is the reluctant sniper from the Hall Family encounter. In the original game, Thomas will fire at you and must be killed. However, in the remaster, he doesn’t fire at you during the boss fight.

If you defeat the rest of his family first, he will give up the fight and apologize for the actions of his family. However, rather than joining you in the Security Room, he will choose to stay in the area with the bodies of his family. It’s a neat detail for those who always felt like Thomas didn’t deserve to die.

The military helicopter takes Frank West in Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster.

4Getting Taken By The Military

A Surprise Ending For Frank

In some endings, Frank manages to escape with a lone survivor as he sensationalizes their survival. In other endings, Frank realizes that he has become personally involved with the story and that the need to save lives has overshadowed his desire for the scoop.

One hidden ending can only be achieved by getting knocked out by the military. Frank will wake up in a helicopter. Each time he fails to escape, the troops will knock him out again, and he wakes up hours later. Too many failures and Frank will be taken by the military and never be heard from again.

Hidden Costumes And Background Music

From the Servobot helmets to a store referencing the classic Jill Sandwich, there are multiple Capcom references sprinkled around the Mall. This also includes weapons like the Mega Man Mega Buster and the classic blue Mega Man Armor that goes with it.

With the addition of the Deluxe Edition skins, some ofthe greatest Capcom charactersjoin the fight, such as Chris Redfield from Resident Evil and Rikuo from Dark Stalkers. The Resident Evil skins also have an effect on the mall music that plays while you slay zombies.

2Don’t Get Caught By Cultists

A Secret Cutscene And Area

There is a secret area that you might miss entirely if you’re too good at the game. Once the Cultists start spawning around the Mall, you will want to take care of them quickly. If they surround you, they might hit you with chloroform.

After this, you will get a cutscene of Frank West waking up inside a sacrificial box without clothes or weapons. He will then need to fight his way out of a storage closet that is only accessible through this method.

The Durability Book Has The Original Cover

One of the best items in the game is the durability book. This item gives you infinite ammo and durability for all of your weapons, making it essential for some of the harder challenges in the game.

Get ready for some nostalgia. If you look closely at the design of this book, you will notice that it used the same cover art as the original Dead Rising game from 2006. This is Frank holding up a television as he bashes a hoard of zombies that surround him.
