Summary

Last month,Sony announced that it’s remastering Horizon Zero Dawn, but a developer at Nixxes — the studio behind the upcoming remaster — has hinted that more are underway.

As reported byPlayStation LifeStyle, the employee posted on LinkedIn, “After five PlayStation PC ports, the first big PlayStation content project from Nixxes Software is coming up!”

The key word here is “first”, seemingly confirming reports thatHorizon Zero Dawnwon’t be the last. VGC reporter Jordan Middler teased last month thatDays Gone is also being remastered, which insider Jeff Grubb confirmed shortly after. Perhaps this is Nixxes' next project.

Last year, Nixxes lead software engineer Coen Frauenfelder said in an official PlayStation video that the studio is “working more and more on creating remasters”, plural. It certainly looks like Sony is interested in bringing its backcatalogue up to par with other first-party PS5 releases, but whether we’ll see any older games make the cut remains to be seen.

Horizon Zero Dawn launched just seven years ago, andDays Gonereleased even more recently in 2019. These are both PS4 games that are already backwards compatible on PS5, while PlayStation still has myriad PS3 games that are inaccessible outside of streaming. Whether any future remasters will tackle these games, or if Sony is more focused on its PS4 blockbusters, only time will tell.

Nixxes' focus prior to Horizon Zero Dawn was PC ports. It worked onRatchet & Clank: Rift Apart,Horizon Forbidden West,Ghost of Tsushima,Spider-Man, andSpider-Man: Miles Morales, helping bring several of PlayStation’s biggest hitters to a brand-new platform.

The new Horizon Zero Dawn remaster is also launching on PC, with the originalhaving been removed from Epic Games Store, so perhaps this is the studio’s new strategy going forward. It certainly makes sense considering the fact that Bluepoint — which has traditionally developed remakes and HD ports for PlayStation — is now focused on makingoriginal games.
