The firstLife Is Strangegame was a bit of a surprise hit. After all, the only other game that Dontnod Entertainment had made and released by that point was 2013’s Remember Me. Life Is Strange was a much bigger hit than that title and was able to launch an impressive series of games - even if Dontnod hasn’t been around for all of it.
The series isknown for its great characters, excellent stories, and amazing soundtracks. All of the main entries have each of those things, which is impressive as there are a fair few instalments. Here are all of them.
Life Is Strange
The original Life Is Strange follows the adventures of Max Caulfield and her best friend, Chloe Price, who try to uncover what is truly going down at the fancy school known as Blackwell Academy. They attempt to do this using Max’s newly acquired ability to rewind time.
The game introduces and establishes the narrative adventure gameplay that the series is known for. Where it differs from the later instalments is the inclusion of Max’s rewind power. This plays a huge part in the gameplay.
Life Is Strange: Before The Storm
Before The Storm serves as a prequel to the original game, putting you in the shoes of Chloe Price before she reunites with Max. Since her best friend is gone and her father has recently passed, Chloe is lonely until she meets the charming Rachel Amber.
Both the gameplay and presentation of this game are very similar to the first title. Yet, Chloe can’t rewind time. Instead, her ‘special ability’ is beating people with her smart mouth.
The Awesome Adventures Of Captain Spirit
Unlike the other entries in the series, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is more of a demo than a full game. In it, you play as a young boy named Chris Erikson, who is dealing with the death of his mother. To do this, he creates his own superhero alter ego.
Since it isn’t really a full game, The Awesome Adventures of Captain Spirit is much shorter than the other entries in the series. Plus, it’s the only one without ‘Life Is Strange’ in its title. Yet, it’s still connected to the series because it serves as a minor set-up to Life Is Strange 2.
Life Is Strange 2
The two brothers, Sean and Daniel, are the main characters in Life Is Strange 2. After losing their father, the pair set out on an adventure to find a new place to call home.
In this one, it’s the non-playable character that has the special powers, as little Daniel gains telekinetic abilities. You control big brother Sean and have to guide your young sibling while trying to keep you both safe. While you don’t directly get to use the powers, you do get many chances to direct Daniel to use them.
Life Is Strange: True Colors
True Colors is the first game in the series that has you playing as an adult. That adult is named Alex Chen, and she visits the small town of Haven to reunite with her older brother. While there, tragedy happens, and Alex and some of the townsfolk have to figure out Haven’s dark secret.
Alex has the ability to see and manipulate people’s emotions. This is used within the gameplay, as it allows you to figure out what people need, perhaps giving you the chance to help them.
Life Is Strange: Remastered Collection
The Remastered Collection isn’t an individual game. Instead, it’s a package that contains updated versions of the original game and Before The Storm.
They aren’t any different from the originals in gameplay or story. However, the visuals of the two games have been improved.
Life Is Strange: Double Exposure
Double Exposure sees the return of Max Caulfield. She is now an adult attending Caledon University in Vermont. It all seems pretty nice until someone is murdered. In classic Max fashion, she takes it upon herself to find out who is behind the killing.
In the process, she makes use of her rewind power. However, it isn’t the same rewind power from the first game. It has evolved, as she can now travel between timelines, which helps make the mystery story even more compelling.
There Are 7 Life Is Strange Games
Overall, there are seven Life Is Strange games. Yet, that includes the Remastered Collection. So, if you just count the original titles, then there are six of them.
What’s impressive is the series has managed to maintain a certain level of quality despite the constant change in characters and settings. After all,any of those games could be considered the best.
