Summary

Silent Hillis a very famous series, one of the most iconic in the world of horror. Not just in gaming either, with Silent Hill having inspired countless spin-offs in terms of novels, movies, and comics. And while the whole series is popular, the main image of the game is derived from Silent Hill 2.

Think to yourself how much of Pyramid Head you have seen compared to every other Silent Hill monster. It’s basically nothing, with Pyramid Head hogging all the attention despite being squarely centered around just James' story. Pyramid Head has appeared so much, in fact, that he his basically an attraction all by himself.

The origin point for it all. James' journey in navigating his own trauma led him to Silent Hill, and Silent Hill had Pyramid head waiting for him as his punisher. There’s plenty that could be said as to what, exactly, Pyramid Head envisions, but he is undeniably a judge of James' own creation.

Of course, this image doesn’t come from nowhere. Plenty of art work within Silent Hill depicts the town’s old executioners from their Prison Camp days, with this likely manifesting to James. So while the stalker we know is exclusive to James, there’s nothing stopping others dreaming up their own version.

16Silent Hill: Homecoming

Homecoming follows the journey of Alex Sheperd as he returns to the town of Sheperd’s Glen following his time at war. Yet the town appears abandoned, the family Alex once knew nowhere to be found. And amidst all that mystery, a face familiar to fans.

Pyramid Head appears frequently throughout Homecoming, though never does the player interact with them in gameplay. They sport a design akin to but not quite the same as the Pyramid Head in Silent Hill 2. Alex can even become Pyramid Head in one ending.

15Silent Hill: The Arcade

As members of their university Occult club, friends Eric, Tina, Bill, Jessie, Ryan, and George all travel to Silent Hill to investigate the various supernatural events rumored to occur in the town, only to end up in a nightmare of their own.

In their journey through Silent Hill, they come across Pyramid Head a myriad of times. He sports a design most reminiscent of the one used in Silent Hill 2 here. He doesn’t have much thematic depth here, though he can permanently kill some characters.

14Silent Hill: Origins

Silent Hill Origins follows trucker Travis Grady as he winds up in the town of Silent Hill. Like many trapped within the town, he faces visions of his past, and has to come to terms with them. Unlike other entries, Pyramid Head does not physically appear in the game.

Instead, they are only present in a painting depicting them as an executioner from the town’s past. Instead, Travis is frequently stalked by a new figure, the Butcher. The Butcher wears an apron akin to Pyramid head as well as an iron mask, echoing their own similarities to the famed monster.

13Silent Hill: Downpour

Downpour follows ex-inmate Murphy Pendleton as he attempts to escape Silent Hill after the van transporting him to a new prison facility crashes. Like others, he faces plenty of visions of his own past, while also witnessing the struggles of those trapped in Silent Hill with him.

Unlike the rest of the games, Pyramid Head does not feature in the main story of Downpour at all, nor does it even allude to them through other enemies either. So where do they appear? In a joke ending, where Murphy escapes from Prison where the cast of previous Silent Hill games congratulate him. Pyramid head even appears to cut a cake for him.

12Silent Hill: Book Of Memories

In what can only be described as the most obscene departure the series has featured thus far (and hopefully ever), Book of Memories is a dungeon-crawler with certain RPG elements, a player-created character, and the titular Book of Memories that lays out your whole life before you. It’s also co-op.

In being such a wild departure, there’s not really even a genuine attempt to hide why Pyramid Head is in the game. They are just there as an enemy that sometimes appears for you to battle. You can even wear his helmet and wield his knife.

11Silent Hill (2006 Film)

This is the first time we’ve touched outside of the games, though came before any other game had featured Pyramid Head since Silent Hill 2. The film takes the majority of its inspiration from the original game, though altering the role of Harry Mason to a new character, Rose.

Despite pulling most heavily from the original game, Pyramid Head appears as the most prominent monster figure in the film, appearing throughout as a menacing force, featuring a greater stature than that featured in the games.

10Silent Hill: Revelation

Silent Hill: Revelation is the sequel to the original Silent Hill film, featuring any of the same characters and actors returning. This time around, Pyramid Head has an even more prominent appearance, with the plot more heavily reminiscent of Silent Hill 3.

In it, Pyramid Head plays the role of Alessa and Sharon’s protector, with this being the very reason for his creation. So yes, Pyramid Head is a more tangible being in this film rather than one that manifests as someone’s fears.

9Silent Hill Comic

There are quite a few Silent Hill comics, created by a variety of different authors and artists, with the majority published by IDW Publishing. In sharp contrast to the comics that came before it, Sinner’s Reward was entirely self-contained.

It is, bizarrely, focused on the Irish Mob, and features a last minute appearance of Pyramid Head as he impales Finn Conway.

8Silent Hill: Betrayal

Silent Hill Betrayal is, unfortunately,an official piece of Silent Hill media, a novel set on a unique set of characters, with the antagonist being a man known as Trevor trying to uncover the mystery surrounding his wife’s death.

He becomes trapped in Silent Hill after Pyramid Head appears on the road to divert them, and appears again as the punisher for those involved in the death of Trevor’s wife, Caroline.
