Personais a series that has had such astronomical growth in the last decade. While Persona 3 and 4 were far from unheard of, Persona 5 shot the series to new heights internationally, even getting Atlus to finally release all the modern games on every conceivable platform.

There are, however, quite a few games that aren’t available anymore. In fact, there are countless Persona games you’ve probably never even heard of, many of which either had a very limited release or were exclusive to Japan. So read on to see just how many Persona games you’re missing out on.

How Many Mainline Persona Games Are There?

For the most part, Persona is a fairly simple series to follow, especially from Persona 3 onwards. Each game is roughlycontemporary to the year in which they were releasedand none of them are strictly connected either, with some key exceptions. Here’s the whole mainline series:

Remake exclusive to Japan

Persona 3 FES, Persona 3 Portable, Persona 3 Reload

2006, 2007 (FES), 2009 (Portable), 2024 (Reload)

PS2 (Original + FES), PSP, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC (Portable)

Persona 4 Golden

2008, 2012 (Golden)

PS2 (Original), PS Vita, PC, Switch, PS4, Xbox One, Xbox Series (Golden)

Persona 5 Royal

2016, 2019 (Royal)

PS3, PS4 (Original), PS4, PS5, Switch, Xbox One, Xbox Series, PC (Royal)

Persona 2 actually has adirect sequel in Eternal Punishment. This is the only instance in the series where two mainline games are directly connected. While Innocent Sin carries over high-level plot beats and themes from Revelations: Persona, they are overall still independent games.

There are also a whole bunch of releases and remakes of just about every Persona game there, each adding more content to the original version of the game. For Persona 2 Eternal Punishment, the remake has remained exclusive to Japanto this day.

In total, that gives ussix mainline entriesin the Persona series.

How Many Persona Spin-Off Games Are There?

Now is where we get to the real fun. While the mainline games are nice and simple to follow, the spin-offs are so numerous and frequent as to not always actually align with the continuity of the game’s they are spin-offs of. In the grand scheme of things, that doesn’t really matter so long as you enjoy them, though it is funny.

Here’s just about every Persona spin-off that’s been released. It’s enough to make you never want to see another Persona game again.

Yes, despite being a spin-off of the greater Shin Megami Tensei series, Persona does ironically also have spin-offs of its own.

Despite releasing after Persona 5: Royal,Kasumi is not featured in Persona 5 Strikers, which is technically a sequel to the original Persona 5.

There’s quite a few games there, huh? Almost as many Persona spin-offs as there areShin Megami Tensei games in total. The vast majority of these are bothexclusive to Japan and older mobiles, so they can’t be experienced anymore.

In total, there are22 Persona spin-offs, with most of them based on the latest three entries in the series.

How Many Persona Games Are There In Total?

After seeing all that, you might be surprised that the Persona series did not start bloating itself withendless spin-offs after Persona 5. Oh no, Atlus has always been releasing as many different versions of Persona as it can since the series began back in 1996.

To tally up the whole series,we have 28 games. An impressive number for only six mainline entries. Let’s do something fun though and break down those spin-offs by associated mainline entry.

In total, there are approximately12 different versions of Persona 3, in case you thought Persona 5 was the winner of that little competition.

Yep, there sure issome uneven distributionthere. Almost like there’s a favourite amongst all those games. Turns out Persona 5 is not quite as bloated as it would seem.
