Silent Hill 2brings you to the eponymous town of Silent Hill, and it’s pretty obvious from the get-go that things aren’t quite normal here. What may start as a quick jaunt down the streets of South Vale quickly devolves into an examination of the deepest fears of those trapped in the town.
For Angela, this manifests as the unpleasantly named Abstract Daddy, a twisted amalgamation of the abuse she suffered as a child. Trapped in the Labyrinth with it, it’s up to James to help both of them wake up from this nightmare by putting Abstract Daddy back to sleep. Here’s how to do it.
Finding And Outrunning Abstract Daddy
After escaping Toluca Prison, James will be dropped into a new area -the Labyrinth. This first section of the Labyrinth is relatively straightforward, leading you through familiar apartment corridors. Be sure to pick up theHandgun Ammo, Rifle Rounds, and Health Drinkalong the way. You can also encounter a heavily soiled newspaper, talking aboutthe death of a certain local Lumberjackwith a sharp-edged weapon. Interesting.
At the end of these hallways, you’ll enter into a room identical to the one you meet Angela in while you’re in the Blue Creek Apartments. Once you pass through the door that you originally found Angela in, you’ll immediately be brought intothe fight against Abstract Daddy, so be prepared.
Abstract Daddy will chase you down the corridor for a brief while before cornering you in a large, square room. At this point,you need to defeat Abstract Daddy to move on. Thankfully, he’s a pretty basic creature, simply charging forward when you get close to him.Dodge to the sideto avoid this attack, and fire as many high-powered rounds intothe bodies on his backto defeat him.
This is not the end of Abstract Daddy, however. No fear as great as him is going to be defeated that easily. After he is defeated, you are free to continue down the corridors, thoughafter a few minutes, Abstract Daddy will reappear. This will result in an extended chase sequence, which it is best to participate in.You can defeat Abstract Daddy here again, though it’s best to avoid him entirely to conserve ammo as you’ll have to fight him later anyway.
You can find bothRifle Rounds and a Health Drinkduring this chase sequence, so be sure to pick them up if you come across them.
At a certain point during this sequence, you will finda crack in the wall, as well as a corridor going down the right. This corridor is where you need to go, though Abstract Daddy will once again appear to fight you. You can fight him here, though it is safer to insteadhide inside the crack in the wall, causing Abstract Daddy to lose you, and avoid another fight altogether.
Step out from the crack in the wall and continue down the hallway. This will eventually lead you toyour final encounter with Abstract Daddy.
How To Beat Abstract Daddy
At the end of all this chasing, you will enter into a fleshy room that beats like a heart. Here will beyour final encounter with AbstractDaddy, allowing you to continue through the Labyrinth and giving Angela some small modicum of peace.
This fight isn’t too dramatically different from the previous battles with Abstract Daddy. However,the room in which you battle him is quite darkso try to keep him in your sights at all times.
He retains his relatively simple moveset from the previous encounters, lurching at you to grab you, which can be easily dodged to the side to avoid. He also gets two new moves. The first is arapid dash across the room, which he typically uses to close the gap between you. The second is a rarely usedstring of punches, which he will most commonly use when he’s already facing in your direction.
Otherwise, the strategy remains the exact same. Simply dodge to the side of all of his attacks, and thenfire at the fleshy bodies on his back. He will occasionally scream once he has taken enough damage that will briefly disorient you, but otherwise it’s not major threat.
With Abstract Daddy defeated, watch the cutscene with Angela coming to terms with her trauma, and thenpick up the Rifle Rounds on the chairbeside Abstract Daddy’s corpse before proceeding through the Labyrinth.
