Egg Dragoon is the penultimate boss in Sonic’s half ofSonic X Shadow Generations. It’s the boss of the third area and the last one you’ll take on before you head towards the endgame. This boss fight is a chaotic one, requiring some quick reflexes and the ability to adapt your strategy on the fly.
Luckily, once you’ve seen all of the attacks the boss will throw at you, it’s a simple case of staying alive and retaliating. Here’s our guide on how to unlock the Egg Dragoon boss battle and how to beat it.
How To Unlock The Egg Dragoon Boss Fight
Since this is the boss of the third area, you’ll need to havebeaten the first and second areasbefore you’re anywhere near fighting Egg Dragoon. Once you’ve cleared through the previous six stages that make up the first two areas - as well as their own bosses - then you’ll unlock the third area.
When you get to the third area,you’ll have to beat Act 1 and Act 2 in each stage, as you would have done previously. Then, once the boss gate appears,you need to beat a Challenge Act from each stage. Once you’ve done this, you’ll have three boss keys and will be able to unlock the boss gate, unlocking the Egg Dragoon fight.
Description
Fire
A series of flames that rotate, taking up the stage. You can dodge these by jumping when they get near you.
Ice
A beam of ice that’s fired during the first phase of the fight. Either jump or quick step out of the way to avoid being hit.
This is used slightly differently in the 2D segment. Here, Egg Dragoon shoots out balls of ice. These are avoided by jumping, or by timing your wall jump correctly once you’ve reached that stage.
Missles
These are used in multiple phases of the fight. Egg Dragoon fires off missiles that try to lock on you. Just make sure you keep moving around, not staying in one place too long, and they’ll miss you.
Walls
In the 2D segment, Egg Dragoon will drop walls around you, trapping you. These walls will close in until they crush you. To avoid this, wall jump on them and land an attack yourself.
How To Beat Egg Dragoon
The Egg Dragoon boss battle constantly changes between different phases,all of which give you an opportunity to attack. However, this opportunity is not guaranteed, and you’ll miss it if you’re not fast enough. If you miss an opportunity, another phase begins, and the fight will continue until one of you is defeated.Egg Dragoon is defeated after taking eight hits.
The first phase is 3D. Here, you’ll have to dodge multiple attacks, such as ice beams and missiles. There are two ways to attack here. The first is to simplykeep running until you’re close enough to homing attack. The second method is touse one of the ramps to reach the rails that are above the stage. Here, be sure to boost so you can reach Egg Dragoon while avoiding the spikes on the rails. If done correctly,jumping off the rails when they come to an end will put you in homing attack range of the upper half of the boss, letting you land a hit.
The second phase changes the perspective to 2D. Here, you have to dodge balls of ice by timing your jumps right. Eventually, Egg Dragoon drops two walls down, trapping Sonic.Wall jump up these to gain enough height, then use another homing attack. You must time the wall jumps right to avoid being hit by balls of ice - but don’t take too long, or the walls will close on you.
Jump as soon as the perspectives change in this segment because Egg Dragoon will have already fired a ball of ice your way.
Once you’ve landed three attacks, another phase is thrown into the mix. This sees Egg Dragoon and Sonic enter a portal and dive through the air. Here, you have to dodge missiles mid-air, all while boosting to close the distance between you and Egg Dragoon.Once you’re close enough, you can homing attack once again.
Doors will try to close in on you in this area, so keep an eye on your environment.
From here, the other segments will repeat However, the second phase is slightly different now, asEgg Dragoon won’t drop the walls around you.This means that the only way to attack is to close the gap while it’s firing those ice beams at you - you’re able to’t just hang back as you did before. Land another attack, and another phase starts.Once both parts of the robot have been defeated, taking a total of eight hits altogether, the fight ends.
