As you progress inBlack Myth: Wukong, your journey will become even more arduous as you encounter many strong optional bosses. It goes without saying that you need to make enough preparations such as equipping strong armour or weapon to beat them easily.
Elder Amourworm is an optional boss that you might encounter in Chapter Four. The Elder Amourworm is quite difficult to miss and is similar to the regular Amourworm enemies that you encounter in the cocoons in the Webbed Hollow region, except it hits a lot harder and has a few moves that are difficult to deal with.
How To Find Elder Amourworm
Elder Amourworm can be found nearThe Verdure Bridge Shrinein the Webbed Hollow region of Chapter Four. You will have todefeat The Second Sister firstand thenjump into the pit ahead of her arenato access this area.
From The Verdure Bridge Shrine,walk over the wooden bridgeon the left of the shrine and head to thepath on the left. You’ll see two speakinglanternshanging outside an openingin the rocks.
Approaching the lanterns will start a cutscene where one of The Second Sister’s siblings tells you about the treasure ahead in the room.
If you head into the room, you’ll find several treasure chests with differentcrafting materials, medicines, and theLegendary Xiang River Goddess Gourd. Progressing further into the room will bring you to the Elder Armourworm waiting ahead at the edge of the cliff.
Elder Amourworm Attacks
Most of Elder Amourworm’s attacks are quite slow, but deal a fair amount of damage, alongside spraying poison on the ground.
You’ll have to bring theAntimiasma Powder Medicineandincrease your resistance to Poisonif you don’t want to suffer from the status effect.
How To Avoid
Web Spray
Just as you enter the fight, Elder Amourworm willspray webson you. This attack will lock you in place for a short duration.
If you don’t break out of the web, you’ll get hit bythe Instant Headbuttfollow-up. The boss may also use this move later on in the fight.
This attack is fairly easy toavoid by dodging. However, if you do get hit by it, startmashing the dodge buttonso the Destined One can break out of the web. After that, dodge to the sides to avoid the follow-up attack.
Instant Headbutt
Like regular Amourworm enemies, the Elder Amourworm also uses this attack where it will reel back its head and thenfly at you, dealing a lot of damage andknocking you down.
While being a powerful attack, the Instant Headbutt isquite predictable and linear. You can easily avoid it bydodging in any directionor by constantly moving to the sides.
Jumping Slam
The Elder Amourworm willjump into the air, slamming its entire bodyon the ground on landing.
You canavoid this attack by dodgingjust as the boss is about to land on the ground.
Continuous Poison Spray
The boss will continuouslyspit poison out of its tailin the Destined One’s direction.
This attack lasts for a little while, so you’ll have to avoid it bysprinting to either left or right. Keep sprinting until the boss stops spitting out poison.
Poison Spitting
This move is a little different compared to theContinuous Poison Spray, as the boss is shooting poison out of its mouth instead of the tail. Elder Amourwormmay spit poison multiple times. The animation of this attack is quite similar to the Web Spray.
Unlike the Continuous Poison Spray,Elder Amourworm shoots poison in burstsfor this attack. Avoid this attack bydodging exactly when the poison projectiles are about to hityou.
Body Slam With Poison Follow-Up
The boss will slam the front part of its body on the ground several times. Elder Amourwormwill also spray poisonfrom its tail in between these body slams.
You have tododge repeatedlyto get out of the attack and the follow-up poison’s range. Be wary of approaching the boss while it’s executing this attack.
5-Hit Headswing Combo
Elder Armourworm will swing itshead around up to four times, before smashing its head into the ground. Be wary, as the boss may slam its head on the ground repeatedly, while alsospraying poison from its tail.
Let the boss finish this attack.Dodge exactly when the head swingcomes out. These attacks are slow, but if you try to attack the boss in the middle of it, you’ll likely get hit.
How To Defeat Elder Amourworm
Defeating the Elder Amourworm requires a lot of patience. You have tolet it finish its attacks. Approaching it recklessly will only result in you getting hit by its attacks.
The best strategy is to use the Immobilize Spell as soon as you get the chance and then use the Red Tides Transformation to deal further damage to the boss. Finish it off byimmobilizing it again as soon as the spell comes off cooldown.
If you do get an opportunity to do a full light attack combo on the boss, you will have to be careful, as sometimesit may appear as if the boss has staggeredand is falling to the ground, but it is anattack in disguise,and you’ll take damage if the boss falls anywhere near you.
Due to the boss having good crowd control, using the A Pluck of Many Spell isn’t a good choice since it consumes a lot of mana, and the boss can easily get rid of your duplicates.
Use theGal Gem Soak for added poison resistanceand theAntimiasma Powder Medicineto getrid of the status ailment. Investing some Sparks in the Bane Mitigation Talent is also recommended if youdon’t want to get poisoned.
If you’veequipped the Golden Armor set, you’ll be able to withstand a lot of physical attacks from the boss, making it easy for you to survive even if you’re unable to dodge some of its attacks.
However, if you have equipped a spirit or gourd thatbuffs the Destined One in a poisoned state, it can be very effective for this boss battle, as getting hit by most of its attacks can easily inflict the Poison Bane on you.
Rewards For Defeating Elder Amourworm
You receive theProto-AmourwormKey Itemfor defeating this boss, alongsideoneRefined Iron Sandand 1456 Will.
However, the actual reward is the Elder Amourworm Spirit, but to get it, you’ll have tobring the Proto-Amourworm to Chen Loonginside the Zodiac Village inside theRuyi Scroll.
After delivering the Proto-Amourworm and resting at a shrine, you can feed it three Rice Cocoon key items that you can acquire by destroying the sacks all over the Webbed Hollow area.After feeding the Proto-Amourworm three times, you’ll be able to claim the Elder Amourworm Spirit.
TheElder AmourwormSpiritincreases your Critical Hit Chancein the poisoned state, which can be extremely effective in Chapter Four as most enemies here can inflict Poison Bane.
Transforming into the Elder Amourworm spirit allows the Destined One tospray poison on the ground, gradually inflicting enemies that step on it with the status ailment.
