The first ofRomancing Saga 2’s seven world-threatening villains is Kzinssie, whose Soulsteal power claims the lives of both Victor and Leon during the prologue. Inheritance Magic gives Gerard the ability to avoid the same fate as his father and brother, but actually besting Kzinssie in combat will take a lot more than a new trick.
While you get a taste of Kzinssie’s might during your first encounter with him under Leon’s leadership, facing him as Gerard means playing for keeps. The fallen hero will unleash dangerous powers that might not be as lethal as Soulsteal, but can still wipe your party if you aren’t careful.
Recommended Party
Once Gerard takes over as Emperor, you’ll have much more control over which characters you bring in your retinue. Kzinssie is no pushover, so you’ll want to verify that you have the right team for the job.
Gerardwill have gained all of Leon’s powers, including the ability to castlight magic. If you haven’t already done so,speak to the Court Mages in the castleand they’ll teach him Fireball as well. It’s a good idea totrain Gerard with Light Magicuntil he learnsMoonlightso that you can have an extra healing spell ready during the battle.
Ariesis practically a must, as you’ll need him castingLife Waternearly every turn to mitigate the damage the Kzinssie deals. He’snot bad with a mace either, especially if you train him a bit, but that’s strictly secondary.
Bearshould stay in his frontline tank role.Equip him with a maceif one is available, as this will give him some extra damage potential against Kzinssie’s sword arm, butmake sure to keep a Sword equipped in Bear’s main slot.Bear’s most essential Tech in this fight isParry.
Your last two slots, taking up both sides of the Imperial Cross formation, should go to charactersproficient with Bows.Therese, Henry, and Andromacheall fit the bill. Whomever you choose, the most important thing is toensure that both of them know Rapid Volleybefore you attempt to face Kzinssie.
Strategy For Beating Kzinssie
In the early stages of the fight, Kzinssie is a fairly standard boss encounter. Pay attention to hisCommand Iconat the top of the screen:
Kzinssie is weak againstGreatswords, Bows, Fire, and Light; hit him with single-target attacks that have high Potency anddon’t be afraid to spend BP early.
Arm Attacks
As the fight progresses, Kzinssie will bring his arms into play as separate targets; first his Right Arm, which carries his sword, then his Left Arm, which prepares a devastating magical attack.
While the arms are charging, use Rapid Volley and Light Ballto hit them and Kzinssie’s main body simultaneously, building up to a Unified Attack todestroy the arms as quickly as possible.
Kzinssie’s arms, unlike his body, are weak againstSwords and Maces, but are just as vulnerable toBows and Light.
The boss’s attack pattern changes while his arms are active; you need toneutralize themto avoid taking lethal damage.
By ensuring that you use Rapid Volley and Light Ball to keep damaging Kzinssie while you deal with his arms, you cankeep the momentum of the fight under controland come out on top.
