This island will be full of mysteries, and you’ll also unlock an ability called Mana Sense here. As you reach its end, you’ll be confronted by an intimidating boss called La Belladonna.

This boss is one of the Carnac villagers turned into this monstrosity by Jord, and it won’t be hard to guess who it might be. However, you need to first defeat this boss to be able to purify it, which isn’t going to be an easy task.

Ys X Nordics La Belladonna about to disappear in the middle of battle.

La Belladonna Overview And Attack Pattern

By the time you reach La Belladonna in Ys X: Nordics, you’ll already be accustomed to most of the mechanics in the game, and it’ll stop throwing easier enemies at you.La Belladonna is one of the first fights that’ll take proper dodging and parryingif you want to have a chance at winning since you can’t simply slash your way into victory.

The boss featuresa respectable 34,715 HP with 173 STR and 223 DEF. It’ll also be fairly difficult to understand what attack it’s performing, but here’s what you can expect:

Description

Speed Attack

This will be one of the first few attacks performed by the boss, and it summons various projectiles all around the battlefieldwhile having a blue glow on its body. Simply sprint through these projectiles to dodge the attack.

If you successfully dodge one of these for the first time, you’ll be able to trigger an animation, which will take a big chunk of the boss' durability.

Shroud Attack

In this attack, the boss performs a spin before disappearing in some pink mist. After a few seconds, it reappears near your active character andperforms multiple spin attacksthat you may parry.

Curse Application

La Belladonna will regularly trigger black waves on the ground, which will apply Curse to your characters. If the Curse bar fills up, their HP will be reduced to one.

Minion Spawn

After losing a certain amount of HP, La Belladonna will go back into pink mist and spawn a bunch ofsmaller enemies that you’ll have to defeat. Once defeated, the boss will reappear with its spin attacks.

Once this attack is performed, you’ll start seeing the boss' hands glowing dark, whichmeans it’ll start applying Curse to your characterswith almost every attack.

Grab Attack

After the minion spawning phase, the boss will commonly head toward your active character with its belly out.If you see it, prepare yourself since it’ll attempt to grab you.

If the grab is successful, the bossstabs your character multiple times, quickly building Curse.

Orb Attack

Sometimes, the boss might spawn some black orbs on the field that slowlystart moving toward your character. you may easily parry these orbs if timed well.

How To Defeat La Belladonna

La Belladonna doesn’t have a big variety of attacks, but most of her attacks are fairly difficult to dodge. Unless you’re going for a perfect run, you should expect some hits and prepare for it byhaving a bunch of healing potions and solid medicine that can remove all the ailmentssince there’s none specifically for Curse.

The second thing you’ll need for this fight is AoE abilities. One of thebest choices at this point in the game will be the Dualuces Burst duo skill. If you’ve been keeping track of your Release progress, you’ll likely already have this unlocked and can switch it out in the skills menu from the main menu.

While you can switch out skills in the middle of battle, it’sstill recommended to do this preparation beforehand.

La Belladonna has quite a lot of downtime between its attacks, so the best way to defeat the boss isto use its attacks to build your revenge gauge and then attack it back in the downtime. Once defeated, the boss will reward you with 12,676 EXP with some gold and Crystal Shards. You’ll also be able to get Rosalind back on the ship.
