Ys X: Nordicsmight initially feel like a complicated game due to the number of mechanics you have to learn, but it gets significantly easier once you get the hang of it. The game is quite linear for a good few hours at the start, which gives you ample time to learn them.

While you face various bosses as you progress the story, you find the second main boss that you’re able to actually defeat on Termina Island. This boss is known as the Magna Diga, and you’ll have to get used to a few of its mechanics if you want to have a chance at beating it.

Magna Diga Overview And Attack Pattern

You’ll first land on Termina Island when you face off against Oor and he pushes you into the Tyrant. This island is a huge graveyard of variousships that crashed into it due to the water currents. As you get through the various caves and land areas of this island, you’ll finally end up in a giant sand pit.

As soon as you enter this pit, the Magna Diga boss will reveal itself to you. Thisboss has a respectable 39,100 HP with 142 DEF, which is more than any other enemy you’ve faced so far except the bosses you couldn’t defeat. Your damage will be quite low at this stage, even if you’ve been trying to level up, which makes this battle last fairly long.

Thankfully, Magna Digadoesn’t have a durability bar that you need to depletebefore damaging its HP.

With that in mind, here are all the attacks you’ll see the boss perform:

Description

Speed Attack

By this point, you’ll already know that speed attacks are performed by the enemies right after they show a blue glow, which is whatthis boss will likely perform as soon as you start the battle. It’s recommended to dash at the right time to dodge this attack.

If you perform a successful dodge, you can go through aspecial animation that already takes away a chunk of its HP.

Burrow Attack

This will be another common attack performed by Magna Diga where it burrows completely under the sand as itconstantly sucks the area around it inside with its mouth.

If the boss successfully sucks you in with this attack, it performs a slam that deals a ton of damage.

Ground Slam

When the boss' body is above the ground, it can perform the ground slam where itconstantly slams the ground with its front and back sides. This happens a few times and is quite easy to parry.

Ground Spin

Magna Diga will occasionally take most of its body out of the sand and perform a spin on the battlefield. While this attack is easy to dodge, italso deals significant damage if you get hit.

Area Denial

The final trait possessed by Magna Diga is its various area-denial abilities by either throwing wooden structures on the sand or creating brown patches. You’lltake damage if you get hit by a falling wooden structureor go into one of the brown pools.

How To Defeat Magna Diga

Now that you know what you can expect from the Magna Diga boss, it’s also important to understand how you can defeat it. There are essentially two ways for you to do this:the safe method and the risky method. For both of these methods, you’d first want to wait for the boss' speed attack to remove a chunk of its HP.

After that, for the safe method, you’re able to consistently run away from the boss while it’s burrowed until it comes back out. After that, you can focus all your abilities on defeating it. ensure to consistently switch between the two characters to utilize both their SP, even though Adol generally deals more damage.

Since the boss doesn’t have any durability, it’srecommended to only use skills with high strengthon it.

On the other hand, if you want to be a little risky, you may let the boss suck you in while it’s burrowed and then time your parry with its attacks. This can be quite hard and counter-intuitive, but it’ll constantly give you higher multipliers for the dual skills, which will allow you to defeat the boss much faster.

You can also time your parries with the boss' spin attack and ground slam toget these multipliers while playing safe. Once you defeat this boss, you’ll be rewarded with a bunch of gold, EXP, and crystal shards.
