The third chapter of ofBlack Myth: Wukongfeatures a total of four ‘Non’ bosses. They are the disciples of Yellowbrow, the antagonist of the current chapter. While you only have to face one of these four as part of the main story, defeating the rest is completely optional. Still, you wouldn’t want to miss out on the fun out of these battles.
Non-Pure will likely be the last optional boss that you encounter in Chapter 3, right before your battle against Yellowbrow. Fortunately, finding and defeating Non-Pure is fairly easy but you’ll still have to be careful not to let it overwhelm you, and you’ll be able to come out victorious.
How To Find Non-Pure
Non-Pure resides in the temple to the right, before you reach upstairs to head into thefinal temple to face Yellowbrow. The stairs up ahead will be guarded bytwo giant monkswith flaming heads.
You don’t actually have to defeat the giant monks to be able to fight Non-Pure, you can simply sprint to the temple on the right side of the area to find Non-Pure.
You will most likely go to this area from the Temple Entrance shrine in theNew Thunderclap Temple. However, it is recommended that you go upstairs to unlock the Mahavira Hall shrine, right outsideYellowbrow’s abode.
Unlocking the Mahavira Hallshrine will save you from the trouble of going through the entire New Thunderclap Temple from the Temple Entrance shrine, in case you get defeated during your boss fight against Non-Pure.
Non-Pure Attacks
Non-Pure usually relies on swinging his weapon around recklessly to deal damage, making it slightly difficult for the player to approach him. Spells such asImmobilizeandRock Solidcan be incredibly useful in this fight.
How To Avoid
Thrust And Sweep
Non-Pure willthrust his staff towards the Destined One. Just as the thrust has been executed, Non-Pure’s staff will start spinning in the air and the boss will grab the staff again to unleash a sweep attack.
The first attack is very linear and can be avoided easily bydodging in any direction. The second attack comes after a short delay, and you’ll have to dodge when the boss grabs his spear again for the sweep attack to avoid it.
Parrying Hand
Often during the boss battle, Non-Pure will snap his fingers, making his left hand glow. In this state, he canparry up to three of your attacksbefore unleashing a counter.
The parry only works on light attacks, so you can throw out acharged heavy attackto knock him back and potentially stagger him. If you get caught by the parry, his counterattack is guaranteed to hit.
Sweep Combo
This attack begins with Non-Pure swinging the staff from over his head, leading into four consecutive sweep attacks, before finishing it up with a larger sweep attack.
Dodge repeatedly to avoid all the hits. you’re able to alsododge forwardto get behind Non-Pure.
Jump Attack
Non-Pure will jump into the air, digging his staff into the ground as he lands. The boss will immediatelythrow a sweep attackwhere he swaps the staff from one hand to the other to to do a third attack.
The jumping attack is easy toavoid by dodgingjust as the boss is about to land. Be ready for the follow-up attack and dodge as each hit is about to come out. If you get further away afteravoiding the jump attack, there’s a possibility that the boss might not even attempt the follow-up attacks.
Jumping Smash Attack
The boss will jump into the air, similar to the other Jump Attack. However, this time, he’ll smashhis staff on the ground, instead of landing on it. This attack doesn’t have a follow-up but can be used while being paired with some of his other combos.
Dodging after seeing the boss jump into the air is an easy way toavoid this attack.
4-Hit Combo
If you’re on his back or to his sides, he’ll swing his staff by immediately turning around. The third attack of this combo is whereNon-Pure smashes his staff on the ground, following it up with a spinning sweep.
Be wary of this attack when you’re trying to circle around the boss. If you see it coming, you canavoid it easily by dodging. The follow-up attacks can also be avoided by dodging. Make sure you don’t start tojump on him after the third hitwhere he smashes his staff on the ground, as there might be a little delay before he executes the final attack of the combo.
Slash Combo
Non-Pure willunleash five consecutive slash attacksone after the other, before finishing it up with a jumping attack.
Each slash attack comes after the last one and there’s no delay between the attacks. You candodge repeatedly or use the Cloud Stepspell to get out of the way. you may also use Rock Solid to avoid this attack.
Palm Burst
During his offense, the boss will usually throw out asingle palm attack, which unleashes Qi.
It is difficult to predict this attack. But, if you expect this attack to come out, you’ll have tostay a short distance.
How To Defeat Non-Pure
Non-Pure is exceptionally weak toHeavy Smash Attackssince he can’t parry those. The basic strategy revolves around keeping hitting the boss, anddodging away from himif he starts to use one of his long combos.
Cloud Step and Immobilizecan make this fight a lot easier. Immobilize is a good way to lock him in place, while Cloud Step can also be used to avoid some of his longer Combo attacks.
Be mindful to not Immobilize him while he’s in the air during one of his jump attacks, because you won’t be able to shatter the Immobilization due to several of your attacks not connecting with the boss.
Red Tides Transformation is also an excellent option during this fight. Once you’veinflicted Burn on him with Guanghzi, each of your light attacks during the Transformation will interrupt him, making it easy for you to deal a considerable amount of damage while the boss just stands there and takes it.
Avoid using theA Pluck of Manyspell as this boss hasplenty of sweep attacksthat can quickly get rid of most of your clones, and the huge mana cost makes it a less favourable option to pick during this boss battle.
Rewards For Defeating Non-Pure
The Destined One will receive Non-Pure’s Spirit upon defeating him. You will also receiveBlood of the Iron Bull,Cold Iron Leaves, twoSilk, and 884 Will. Furthermore, you’ll be able to meditate in the center of the Temple, in front of the Buddha, which will grant you one Spark of Enlightenment.
Non-Pure’s Spiritbuffs your Rock Solid spellby moderately increasing your Damage Reduction right after using the spell. The Spirit itself allows you to take on the form of Non-Pure,swinging around his weaponwhile dealing damage into a large area around the Destined One.
The Spirit can help you deal with hordes of enemies quickly, and can also be useful for dealing a considerable amount of damage to bosses. If Non-Pure was your final Non-boss out of the four, you will also receive theDevoted Disciple achievementafter defeating him.
