Throughout the gameplay ofYs X: Nordics, you’ll hear the name of Rollo very commonly, which makes it quite obvious that he’d be the final boss you go against. However, the true identity of Rollo is quite surprising, along with the partner who joins him at the end against Adol and Karja.
This won’t be the first boss battle where you’ll go against two boss enemies at the same time, but it will be a lot more challenging than the others. You’ll need to make some preparations if you want to have a chance at winning this.
Rollo And Lila First Phase Guide
While most boss fights in Ys X: Nordics have rough phases where the enemy gets a couple of new attacks, the phases in the fight against Rollo and Lila aredefined very clearly with a cutscene in between them. The first phase is when the boss doesn’t start with a durability bar, and it goes all the way up until you lower their HP to 20 percent.
Throughout this battle, Rollo and Lila will share an HP bar that you can see at the top, and thisbar will lose its HP and durability when you attack either one. Here are the attacks that you can expect from them in this phase:
Speed Attacks
Lila
Throughout the battle, Lila will stay on the boundary of the battlefield and constantly launch speed attacks at you. These can include somespike-like projectiles that get launched one at a timeor a wave on the ground.
This wave is launched in an arc-shaped pattern. It’s recommended to keep an eye on these attacks asdodging them can serve as a good way to deal high damage.
Slash Attacks
Rollo
During the start of the battle, Rollo will commonlyswing his axe toward the character, making for some easy parries for you. After two slashes, he jumps a little high and slams his hammer into the ground.
Red Attack
You’ll also see Rollo jump high in the air with a red aura and swiftlyslam the ground again with a much larger AoEthan the normal slash attacks.
Wind Attack
In this attack, Rollo once again rises in the air with a green aura around his axe andthen dashes towards the ground, consistently swinging his weapon.
Spin Attack
When you’re far away from Rollo, he’ll charge his axe for a moment and then come at you while spinning the axearound his body.
Frostbite will be yourbest friend for this fightsince it can significantly increase your damage output.
The first phase of the battle against Rollo and Lila will already have you on your toes since you’ll meet with a constant barrage of attacks. For this battle, it’s important to remember that protecting yourself is more important.Focus on building your revenge gauge and preventing damageinstead of trying to attack throughout and dealing low damage.
Rollo And Lila Second Phase Guide
Once you bring their collective HP to around 20 percent, you can trigger a cutscene that leads to Rollo getting a mask on his facewhile Lila gets some shields around her, making it hard to target her in battle. This change also brings along some new attacks while buffing some of the old ones:
Blue Orb
As Lila moves across the battlefield, she can sometimes spawn a big blue orb that moves toward your active character. You caneasily parry this orbto get some revenge gauge.
Constant Attacks
During the start of this phase, Lila spawns a couple of entities in the air thatconstantly launch speed projectiles at your character, essentially serving as a third enemy that you can’t attack.
Enhanced Red Attack
After slamming his hammer into the ground as the normal red attack, Rollo will then launch a speed attack right after with blue ground waves all around him.Dodging this attack triggers a cutscenedealing massive damage to the boss.
Rollo’s Ship
From this phase, Rollo can summon a whole ship on the battlefield that swiftly moves in the direction it’s facing after a small delay. The best course of action to dodge this attack isjust moving out of the ship’s face.
Grab Attack
Sometimes, you’ll see Rollo’s arm glow green as he dashes toward your active character. If he successfully grabs you, he’lllaunch you up in the air and perform a slashthat deals heavy damage.
The second phase is essentially a filler in the battle where the game introduces you to some more of the boss' moves, but thephase already ends when you remove their durability bar. Paying attention to your surroundings is important during this since you’ll hardly have a moment when you aren’t getting attacked.
Rollo And Lila Third Phase Guide
As you remove Rollo and Lila’s first durability bar, another cutscene will trigger, and they’ll fullygain their health with another durability bar at the end of it. This is where the true battle begins as the first two phases were simply to get you used to what you should expect. In this phase, Rollo and Lila will go all out.
This not only means faster attacks, but alsosome new ones that you haven’t seenyet:
Clone Attack
As soon as the final phase starts, Rollo will summon up to four clones around himthat run at you and attack one at a time. You can parry the first of these attacks, but it’s recommended to dodge the rest.
This is mainly becauseRollo can start performing other attacksas these clones are attacking you.
Lightning Strikes
As Rollo launches his clones and then likely a ship at you, Lila will perform a summon attackwhere you’ll see circles on the ground. When these circles fill up, there will be a lightning strike at the location.
Dual Attack
Rollo and Lila
After removing their durability bar in this phase, there will be another cutscene followed by a dual attack where the two ready a giant orb andthen launch it all across the battlefield.
This will first knock you up and then summon lightning strikes all around, and it’simportant to try to dodge or parry theseas much as possible.
Ground Wave
Sometimes, you’ll see Rollo punch his fist into the ground, and he’ll deal damage in alarge triangular shape in frontof him soon after that.
Whirlpool Attack
When the duo gets their second durability bar in this phase, Lila will create a whirlpool in themiddle of the battlefield that sucks you in, making you an easy target.
This is the longest phase out of the three, and also the most difficult one. Until now, you were getting one attack from Rollo and Lila each, but now they canboth perform multiple attacks at the same time. Once again, the idea is to dodge as many attacks as possible while you build Frostbite on your main target to deal damage.
It’s highly recommended to stock up on somehealing and Paralysis removalitems for this battle as well.
