Time Eater is the final boss inSonic’s half ofSonic X Shadow Generations. Much like the original release of Sonic Generations, the method of taking on this final boss isn’t immediately clear - even with every character in the game barking orders at you the entire time.

In this guide, we’ll go over exactly what you need to do to defeat Time Eater, and how you unlock the boss in the first place.

How To Unlock The Final Boss In Sonic Generations

As you might expect, your first step is beating all of the nine main stages, as well as the three bosses that block your path:Death Egg Robot,Perfect Chaos, andEgg Dragoon.

Once you’ve defeated Egg Dragoon, you unlock the final area on the right side of the map. This looks like a bunch of machine parts and cogs, which are activated with the Chaos Emeralds you’ve unlocked along the way.

This meansyou need all seven of the Chaos Emeraldsto access Time Eater. You unlock four of them throughout the main story, but the remaining three come through therival battleswithMetal Sonic,Shadow, andSilver. Nope, these weren’t optional after all.

Once you have all of the Chaos Emeralds, simply take them back to the final area. By jumping near the centre of each cog, each emerald will automatically be slotted in place.

How To Beat Time Eater

After a cutscene, we find out that - surprise, surprise - Time Eater is being controlled by Eggman. Or, well, Eggmans, since there are two of them. This means there are two of you in the final boss, asyou control both modern and classic Sonic.

From here on out, your task is simple - get close enough to Time Eater so you can land an attack. You need to land four attacks to win.

Both Sonics will be in Super Sonic form. This means that you’ll continuously lose rings the longer the fight goes on. Make sure to pick up as many as you can, because hitting zero will restart the entire fight.

This means that the boss is largely “boost to win”. Just keep holding down the boost, and you’ll get there eventually. Once you reach Time Eater’s vulnerability point (which will be clearly highlighted) just boost into that too, and repeat that two more times.

After the third attack, you’ll be prompted to press both of the back triggers at the same time, so both Sonics can combine their power. Do this, and the fight is over.

Switching Between 2D And 3D

Pressing a button (triangle on PlayStation, Y on Xbox) will let you switch between playing as modern and classic Sonic. As you’d expect, switching to classic Sonic turns the level 2D.

Don’t fret about this too much, asSonic’s friends will tell you when to switch between 2D and 3D.But in case you didn’t hear them, you’re able to just follow Time Eater. Just make sure it’s always directly in front of you, and if it isn’t, then you need to switch.

You cannot attack Time Eater as Classic Sonic, only dodge attacks and keep up the pursuit. However, this is a good opportunity to stock up on rings.

Time Eater’s Attacks

Sonic’s pals will give you some warning before Time Eater attacks, and give you a rough idea of how to avoid being hit. Here’s everything that Time Eater will throw your way during the fight.

Description

Homing Shot

A series of homing missles, and Time Eater’s most common attack. To avoid these, just don’t stay in one place too long.

Warping Arm Attack

One of Time Eater’s arms is launched through a portal. To avoid it, just boost out of the way as soon as you see it coming towards you.

Crush

When you’re close to attacking range, Time Eater will bring its arms up to try and crush you. Either slow down to get out of range, dodge out of the way, or keep going until you land the attack, since this will stun it temporarily.

Laser

A laser beam. Boost out of the way before it can target you. Switching between 3D and 2D can also help with this.

Slow Down Time

Not much of an attack, but incredibly annoying. Towards the end of the fight, Time Eater will start slowing down time. You just have to wait it out, and then you may start boosting again.
