You’d expect to find a giant rock monster at the end of the Eldin Temple inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom, but the Goron homestead instead puts you up against a giant, fire-breathing dragon. One with a winding body and a big green orb on its crimson neck.
It’s a boss battle without traditional phases in an arena where movement and reflexes are most important, alongside what echoes and abilities you decide to use when dishing out a healthy dose of damage. But with the right approach, it’s easy enough to conquer.
Volvagia Fight Overview
This battle presents a departure from most of the boss battles Echoes of Wisdom has given us so far, largely becauseit follows an enemy that spends the entire fight up in the air.
You’ll need toadjust your movement and combat strategies accordingly, reacting to a range of new attacks that have surprising reach and high damage potential.
The best flying echo to use for this fight is the Ghirro. Not only is it easy to grab on the ground, but also releases a gust of wind that sends you flying around the arena.
Volvagia will continually move between a handful of different points on the map, each with a different attack and terrain for Zelda to consider.
In order to navigate the battlefield, you’ll use the jets of smoke billowing up from the ground, equipping a winged echo you can hang onto to move around the arena quickly and avoid incoming attacks.
It’s a fight with a fast and reactive pace, but relatively easy to overcome if you know what echoes to use and when to move around the environment. Given his lack of phases, you stand a chance at taking Volvagia down very easily.
How To Defeat Volvagia
You will begin the fight on the centre platformas Volvagia spawns from the upper right and fires a big green orb towards you.Avoid this by jumping to the right and summoning Ghirrobefore jetting into the air.
Volvagia will follow up his initial attack with abarrage of fireballs, but these are easy enough to dodge so long as you remain airborne.
Now you will have a few seconds totake on Zelda’s swordfighter form and dish out damage. It would be wise to pull double duty and summon a Darknut or other offensive echo to verify you’re dolling out as much punishment as possible. However, this won’t be possible in every part of the arena thanks to some scorching hot floors.
After taking enough damage,Volvagia will take flight before plunging into the lava until he emerges once again in the upper right corner. This part of the arena isn’t without hazards, so find your closest stream of smoke, hop aboard Ghirro, and repeat the same attack pattern.
You will also notice some breakable jars on the right, which contain some hearts and energy if you didn’t come prepared with any smoothies.
When Volvagia appears in the lower right corner, you will notice thathe isno longer in melee range, and you will need toeither use Zelda’s bow or summonranged echosto damage him. He’ll alsouse a sweeping neck attackalongside his usual repertoire, so make sure you don’t stand too far forward and sacrifice any needless hearts.
The lower left is just as complicated, asZelda won’t be able to step on the inflamed ground without setting herself alight. Thankfully, you can just keep spawning echoes in her place or once again use Link’s bow to close the distance.
Volvagia will occasionally appear in the middle and unleash aflaming breath attack that will heat up any platformyou happen to be standing on, forcing you to change position on the fly or leave echoes to die. But don’t worry, you may just spawn some more in their place.
Things never get any more complicated than this, and the pattern will continue until Volvagia is down for the count.
Rewards For Defeating Volvagia
Volvagia will dropafull piece of heartto increase and restore Zelda’s health, while Tri will gain enough experience to level up and can now summon certain echoes at a lower cost.
