Before you gain access to the Gerudo Sanctum inThe Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdomyou will need to work with the royalty of Gerudo Town to help close an assortment of rifts that have sprung up across the desert.

One of the major puzzles in this string of quests is the Ancestors Cave of Rest, which, at first glance, can be a bit of a head-scratcher. Here’s how you can light each torch to progress the main quest.

Zelda speaks to a Gerudo guard about lighting torches in Echoes of Wisdom.

How To Light The Torches

When you first enter the Ancestors Cave of Rest, you will be greeted by a Gerudo guard who is standing to the right and complaining about not being able to light a duo of torchesjust beyond the rift. Without a light to guide them, their ancestors can’t find peace.

Unfortunately, even Zelda can’t just hop across a purple fissure in the ground, so you need to find an alternate way around. After finishing your conversation with the guard, run to the left and move the giant rock out of the way using Zelda’s levitation abilityto reveal a door.

Zelda finding a Holmill echo for the first time in Echoes of Wisdom.

You might be tempted to smash all the rocks in this upcoming room, but sadly, there is nothing to find except a fewgreen rupeesand waywardheart pieces.

You will emerge into a new room filled with giant rocks and tiny moles, with the latter digging holes in the ground that are easy to fall down if you aren’t careful. But you will need the mole echo to relight the torches, so throw a bombfish echo down one of the holes to kill the moles and learn their summon. Alternatively, you can damage them when they pop up for a break.

Remember to move the rock at the top of the room to reveal the ladder, too. Now, head down into a new section filled to the brim with sand.

At first, the giant blocks of grain will feel impossible to bypass, but this is where the Holmill echo comes in. Summon one, andit will be quick to dig directly beneath where it spawnsbefore coming out of the other side. Jump down these holes to navigate the area at your leisure.

The physics of the Holmill can be a little finicky, especially if you land right on top of it. It can look like a glitch, but the game will settle you back into place before long.

There isa treasure chest on the left-hand side of the room containing a golden eggand a few other bits and pieces to collect throughout before you push onto the main objective.

Upon reaching the bottom of the pit and hoovering up all the available treasure, hop over a stray Ignizol and climb the red ladderleading up to the other side of the entrance, where aduo of torches can be found. Now spawn an Ignizol, light them, and then speak to the spirit sitting beside the burial site. They will thank you for restoring peace before teleporting you to speak with their very much-alive comrade.

Captain Dohna will then appear and ask if you may return to Gerudo Townto give the crown a status update on whether you’ve been able to close a rift.
