Slitterheadoffers lots of ways to hone your playstyle and play how you want, but you will need to acquire different Rarities to make that happen, which doesn’t happen for quite some time. Fortunately, the Black Payback mission will finally grant you access to a second Rarity upon completion.
Whether or not Alex will be your cup of tea is up to you, but this will kick start the acquisition of Rarities, meaning many more are just in reach. The good news here is that this mission is relatively short, allowing you to get in and get out with a new member for your roster!
Starting Black Payback In Slitterhead
Black Paybackis thefourth missionin Slitterhead, where you willunlock your first additional Rarity,giving you a new, unique gameplay style to mess around with in future missions. This will alsoallow you to bring along a Companion,essentially enabling you to havetwo Rarities in the same missionfrom now on.
Investigate Accident
This mission begins withJulee walking toward the marketson the main street, heading toward the destination of the accident. Once you gain control of her,run straight through the markets until you find a crowdof people.
Whenever youreach the crowd gathering near the wrecked bike,you mustpossess a bystander across the streetto get closer to the accident. From here, you canwalk up to the motorcycle and examine it,triggering a brief cutscene. After checking the wreck out, you’re able to follow a blood trail.
Follow The Blood Trail
Following the blood trailwill lead you into aback alley,leading you further and further in, ultimately resulting inseveral encounters with Slitterheads,so be prepared. There will be lots of them, but it shouldn’t be too challenging, as they are the lesser variants of them for the most part.
Defeat The Slitterheads
And here we have ourfirst encounter with a Slitterhead,having you fight aworm-like one and several smaller ones.This encounterisn’t going to pose too much of a threat;just use yourheavy attacks and Skills,and it will be taken care of in no time. Don’t forget toswitch to other civilians if you’re low on health,and keep the offensive up!
Continue Following The Blood Trail
With the first group of Slitterheads taken care of,begin following the blood trail again,which will lead youup a ramped road, through a small plaza area, and down a set of stairsleading to the city’sback streets.Continue following the blood until you reach another group of Slitterheads.
Defeat The Slitterheads, Part Two
Julee should be backfor this encounter, so jump to her and be prepared to fight aproper Slitterhead.While it will be atad tougher than the previous fight,you should know how to deal with this type of Slitterhead by now.Parry its attacks, use Sonic Claws, and activate Revive All if needed.There will also besmall Slitterheadsnearby.Focus them first,as they can climb onto some civilians and turn into full Slitterheads.
Surprise, there’s asecond wave of Slitterheadsthat roll in after you defeat this wave. Fortunately, it’s alesser Slitterhead,and you should be able to make quick work of it with Julee. Again,focus on the small ones first,and thenlay into the big one with all you haveto eliminate it swiftly!
Finish Following The Blood Trail
Continue to follow the blood trailafter defeating the waves of Slitterheads to findseveral Military Vehicleson the main street. From here,take the stairs up to the overpassthat overlooks the main street tofind an injured Alex knelt overin pain by the wall.
Possess Alexto unlock anew Rarity,giving you access to hisunique Blood Skills.You will instantly bethrown into a mini tutorial mode.Use this time tofamiliarize yourself with his abilities and general gameplaystyle. It’s a lot different than Julee’s, so pay attention!
Defeat Greater Blue-Ringed Octopus Slitterhead
Completing the tutorial will have theGreater Blue-Ringed Octopus Slitterheadspawn in, allowing you to showcase what you just learned. While Julee will eventually spawn in, werecommend only using Alex hereto get used to his unique Skills and playstyle.
Utilize hisBlood Well Skilltodraw the Slitterhead into a specific spot and hold it there,allowing you tocharge up his Blood Blast Skilland deliver adevastating shotgun blastto it, dealing substantial damage. You can alsoswitch to other civiliansand use theTime Bomb Skillbeforeswitching to someone else to avoid dying,causing massive damage.
Don’t forget you canheal by holding R1/RB,allowing you toabsorb blood off the ground, replenishing your healthalongside it. Use all these tools to get the best of the Greater Blue-Ringed Octopus and defeat it in the blink of an eye. Seriously, Alex does A LOT of damage!
Black Payback Rewards
Clearing Black Playbackwill not only unlock Alex for you but will also net you a whopping18 Skill Tokensto spend on either Julee or Alex. However,keep in mind that these Skill Tokens are shared between Rarities,so choose wisely who to spend them on.
Finally,exhaust every single option that’s available in the ‘Talk’ menuupon completing the mission, as that is how you willunlock the following missions and even some more Raritiesin the future!
