Collecting Pokemon cards is only half of what you can do inPokemon TCG Pocket. The other half of the game is a mobile-friendly version of the trading card game, complete with player-versus-player battles and custom decks.

Placing all of the rare cards you’ve collected into a battle-ready deck is one of the most satisfying reasons to keep playing Pokemon TCG Pocket. Luckily, even if you aren’t familiar with creating a custom deck, the game offers several templates, called Theme Decks, to build. Below, we’ll take a look at everything you need to know about Theme Decks, including how to unlock them all.

What Are Theme Decks?

Theme Decks are a type of mission and deck type that essentially tasks you with collectingall 20 cards within the given deck. These arethemed around a single or specific group of cards, like Charizard, Mewtwo, the Kanto Fossil Pokemon, and so on.

Each Theme Deck has aHighlight cardthat, when obtained, will give you arental version of the deckthat can be used in battlesten times. This lets you try out the deck to see if you like it before committing to collecting every card in the deck.

For Theme Decks that have multiple Highlight cards, you’ll need to collectone copy of each of its Highlight cardsto unlock the Rental Deck.

Completing a Theme Deck Mission doesn’t necessarily reward you with anything, but it does mean that you’ll have the full deck list that you can thencreate your own deck out ofand use in battle as much as you want.

It’s important to note that while these decks are ready-made, they arenot often competitively viable. There are manystronger deck optionsout there, and Theme Decks should be consideredbeginner or starter optionsonly.

Any version of each Pokemon card counts towards the mission, so you can complete Deck Missions usingany art or rarity versionof the card that you pull. However,only cards in that specific expansion count towards the deck. For example, a Genetic Apex Pidgey will not count towards the Blue and Pidgeot ex Deck in Mythical Island.
