Slitterheadstarts to come into its own after you acquire many Rarities, as they not only push the narrative forward but allow you to mess around with new playstyles, encouraging you to try new things and discover exhilarating and rewarding Rarities by simply playing them.
Alex is a perfect example of this, as he is required to access the Oppressive Force mission and is unlocked naturally through the game’s story. He also plays drastically differently from Julee, making him extremely rewarding to play if you’re not used to his slow and methodical approach.
Starting Oppressive Force In Slitterhead
While youdon’t have to bring Alexalong for the ride in theOppressive Forcemission, his Skills make some sections much easierto deal with, so wehighly recommend having Julee and Alexas your choices here. While we love Anita’s playstyle, it won’t be as effective here.
There will be A LOT of encountersduring this mission, so be ready to fight. This isone of the first missions in the game that has substantially more fighting than exploration, which is what makes Julee and Alex the prime choices for your Rarities.
Investigate The City’s Situation
When the mission begins, you will be tasked toinvestigate the city’s situation, which more or less boils down to justwalking forward until you run into Special Forces Units.Once you encounter them, they will begin attacking you, leaving you no choice but to dispatch them.
Despite them having access to guns, they arequite easy to defeat, especially if youuse Julee’s Sonic Claws and spam her heavy attack. After you’vedefeated the small groupof Special Forces, walk over to the severely injured memberandquestion them about what’s going onto progress the mission.
After questioning the Special Forces Member, follow the marker into the back alleyand continue pushing forward untileven more Special Forces Unitsapproach you. This time, however, one of them will have a Riot Shield, which can be highly irritating to deal with.
You candeal with them in a handful of different ways, with thebest methodbeingusing possession to get behind them, allowing you to hit them in the back, and dealing substantial damage to them.Julee’s Sonic Claws will also go through the Riot Shieldand deal damage. It can also break, but it takes quite a lot of damagebefore doing so and is not the preferred strategy.
Westrongly encourage you to deal with the Riot Shield Trooper first,as they are the most annoying. This will only leave standard Special Forces Units, which can swiftly be taken care of just like you did earlier!
Continue following the marker to thenext S.P.E.U. Position, eventually bringing you toyet another new Special Forces Trooper. This one is arguably more annoying than the Riot Shield Trooper, as they have aNeutralizing Ray Gunthattemporarily makes your Skills inactive.
These Troopers are your utmost priority,as your Skills are crucial to your survival. If yousee them charging the Neutralizing Ray Gun up, wait for them to fire, then quickly evade to the left or rightto avoid getting hit by the blast. If it hitsyou, switch to someone else immediately,as they will be able to use their Skills.
Defeating the first waveof Special Forces will have asecond one march up the stairs, with one member being aRiot ShieldTrooper.Deal with them the same wayyou did last time, thenpush down the stairsthey came up from andeliminate the Trooper standing on top of the truckto progress the mission.
Push toward themain streetand follow the marker until you aremet with even more Special Forces Units;this time, it’sa combination of all the types you fought earlier.Joy. This is thehardest part of this mission,so you’re going to have to go into it with a little bit of strategy.
First, youmust target the two Neutralizing Ray Gun Troopers from the top of the vans,as they can severely mess up your gameplay.Don’t even worry about the others.Justmake a break for them right off the batand dispatch them immediately. This will guarantee you always have access to your Skills.
Next, the Riot Shield Troopers will be your focus. There arethree of them,so ensure you’reconstantly switching to civilianstoget behindthem and deal damage. UseJulee’s Sonic Claws to penetrate the Shieldsand deal even more damage, then turn your focus on theremaining Units, whichshould be a cakewalkby comparison!
With the most challenging part out of the way, it’s time tofollow the marker to reach the Cultist Follower, who will bea Slitterhead cornered by the Special Forces Units.Approach the scene to trigger a brief cutscene that leads to an encounter with the Slitterhead.
Defeat The Slitterhead
Two Slitterheadswill be present for this encounter.Choose one of them and unleash all you haveon it, including yourRevive All Skill, if your health dropsto a dangerous level. Use yourSonic Claws to deal substantial damageand keepspamming heavy attacksto stagger it and finish it off.
Even if there are two of them, thesecond Slitterhead will run away the moment you kill the other one, forcing you tochase it down,so don’t worry about having to fight it immediately afterward. It’s best tojust go all out on one of them instead of trying to play it safeand deal damage to both, which is a waste of time and resources.
Chase After The Slitterhead
Chase after the Slitterhead, usingBlood Jumpto scale theneon signs, chasing it onto arooftop and up a large piece of scaffoldingthat leads to the top of another rooftop. Once you reach this point, anothercutscene will play, having the Slitterhead transform into aWarty Frogfish Slitterhead, which is the last encounter of the mission.
Defeat The Warty Frogfish Slitterhead
Facing theWarty Frogfish Slitterheadisn’t nearly as annoying as the last Special Forces section, so if you made it this far, you should be more than ready to finish it.Julee can deal substantial amounts of damageto this Slitterhead with herSonic Claws and heavy attacks, allowing her tostagger it with ease.
Theonly attack you really have to watch out forhere is when theSlitterhead glows red,as that indicates anunblockable move is coming, meaningyou must evade it,or it will deal substantial amounts of damage to you on contact. Other than that, keep applying your offense and watch its health get demolished.
Furthermore, parrying is also extremely goodagainst this Slitterhead, asits attacks are easily telegraphedand give you ample time to react and parry. Switching toAlex will also be beneficial,as hisBlood Well and Blood Blast combination does tons of damageas well!
Oppressive Force Rewards
Completing Oppressive Force for the first timepays out big with22 Skill Tokens, allowing you to choose between Julee, Alex, or Anita to distribute them to. Or all three if you’re feeling extra generous. Again, this is the point of the game where you really have to start being selectivein terms of upgrades.
As always, here’s anotherfriendly reminder to ensure you’re listening to every ‘Talk’ option availabletounlock more missions and potential hintsthat may lead to additional Rarities!
