Cave Of Destruction is a level 50 dungeon inThrone And Liberty, essentially a more challenging version of the level 40 dungeon, Cave Of Desperation. You may find yourself wanting to run this dungeon a few times, as its drops - Lequirus' Wicked Thorns and Lequirus' Coveted Tome - are considered some best-in-slot items for dagger users and wand users.

The dungeon is relatively straightforward and isn’t as long or as dense with mobs as some of the other level 50 dungeons, but there are some tricky mechanics throughout that might wipe an inexperienced party.

Entrance Of The Dungeon And Minibosses

As you first head into the dungeon, you’ll encounter a variety of ants. There are regular ants, charging ants, mutant ants, acid ants, poisonous ants, the lot.

Themutant explosive antsare the trickiest to deal with as they chase after you and explode in a pool of poison. Your healer should be ready to heal you up to counteract the ticking damage-over-time effect.

Giant Mutant Ants

You’ll encounter two Giant Mutant Ant minibosses before you reach the main boss,Lequirus. Each miniboss arena will be surrounded bylarva. If your party’s DPS is high enough, you should be able tokill these before they turn into ants.

In the second miniboss arena, you need todestroy the poison sacs, and thenkill the ants that are linked to the poison sacin the centre of the arena. Destroy the poison sac to spawn the second miniboss.

Lequirus Boss Guide

Up until this point, the dungeon has been relatively simple. Lequirus, however, has a wipe mechanic thatneedsto be completed.

Lequirus AoE Wipe Mechanic

During the fight, Lequirus will spawnBlue Paralyzing AntsandRed Paralyzing Ants.At the same time, an area matching the colour of the Red or Blue ants will spawn on the ground. You need to kill the ant that matches the color of the highlighted area.

When Lequirus screeches and jumps into the air, if you have collected aRed or Blue matching buffyou can stand on the highlighted area, and it will lift you up on a pillar to avoid the incoming AoE attack. Standing on the pillar will also grant all players on the pillar a damage buff for a short duration.

You then need to fly to one of the raised platforms and defeat theGem Antquickly. The longer it takes you to kill the ant, the morepoisonLequirus will stack on you. Once theGem Ant is defeatedyou can return to the centre and continue fighting the boss.

Alternative Strategy

If you don’t manage to kill an ant with the matching colour, you caninstead run immediately to one of the raised platformswhen Lequirus jumps into the air.

Stand on the ramp next to the platform andwait for the small egg on top of the platform to disappear, then run onto the top of the platform to avoid the AoE. Repeat the process of killing the Gem Ant and continue the fight.

Larva Mechanic

Lequirus' other main mechanic involvesspawning a larva on top of all player’s heads. Once you notice the larva, make sure to group together to knock the larva off of each other’s heads. If you fail to do so, Lequirus will launch you into the air and deal significant damage.

Paired with the stacking poison, stuns from the paralyzing ants, and damage from the boss, failing to complete the larva mechanic can mean multiple players die, leading to a failed attempt.
